Please please cover best practices for what to do to minimize harm post-skin picking! I don’t see dermatologists cover this. And if the methodology changed depending on picking severity mention that too. Products to use and avoid!
Those are amazing but if you have *already* picked a spot, it kind of scabs over and a hydrocolloid patch takes the scab right off so the damage can look worse. If it’s still oozing gunk though, it’s still worth it. I’ve always had problem skin and tried so many things that when someone recommended them a long time ago, it went in one ear and out the other. When I finally tried them I was amazed. That being said they do help me from picking as long as they are on but once the gunk comes to the surface I still pick.
i was picking my skin constantly for YEARS all through out high school and college, had horrible acne until i started getting acrylic nails and it was impossible to pick my face with the length i had. skin started clearing up within a month 💀
If you are a young person struggling with acne watching this please please please take head to what she is saying. It’s so true. I delt with severe acne well into my 30s until it truly registered in my head to stop popping and picking at my pimples. Once I stopped and got a good regiment going of washing my face with a gentle cleanser every night and using moisturizer, my skin finally cleared. But guess what took center stage? Scars. Deep poc scars. Please do whatever you have to do to break the urge to pick. Cause once you have those deep pit scars there’s almost nothing you can do to get rid of them aside from very expensive laser surgery.
I don’t picking my skin when I have inflamed acne. However, I noticed that my skin is a bit different from others. I need to pop out some acne because they can be there for months or ever. They became dark spots anyway, but the ones I popped out heal faster. I don’t have money to see a derm. :(
I often get cysts (not exactly the same as cystic acne, which often don’t surface, but legit cysts that come out totally incapsulated), and also white stretchy plugs (don’t know what those are) and if I don’t pick/get them out, they can literally be under my skin for months to a year+, and often the spot will continue to get infected until I get the core out.
Yes..I face this too..a few just seem to be sitting on the skin for a week or 10 days without going away The minute u pop them (hygienically)and let out all the pus..they scab over and heal faster
Okay but, I often get cysts (not exactly the same type as cystic acne that often don’t surface, but legit cysts that come out totally incapsulated), and also white stretchy plugs (don’t know what those are) and if I don’t pick/get them out, they can literally be under my skin for months to a year+, and often the spot will continue to get infected over and over until I get the core out.
I pick but to prevent it I use hydrocolloid patches or small skin-coloured fabric plasters (aka bandaids). I look crazy but it allows my skin to heal so I’m good.
Former picker. I still can’t help but pop or squeeze my clogged pores. It’s so hard not to for some people. Especially when it’s an insecurity you start feeling like you have to get them out/off. Thankful for drying lotions to spot treat. I was a cystic acne sufferer for years and I’m now in my 30s and honestly thanks to this channel the products I use most on my skin are Vaseline and zinc oxide (first aid beauty makes a zinc oxide mineral sunscreen and it’s 20% active which is pretty high/baby sunscreen is also high zinc oxide) and my skin looks so much better. I try not to pick at dry skin or breakouts but much of my life my skin has caused so much insecurity so just know it can get better. Be gentle on your skin. And don’t try 85 products in one week. It really wreaks havoc. ❤
Happy Sunday Dr Dray excited to be here. Thanks for your sound advice about this have a good night.

I have picked on my skin for decades and still have a hard time stopping myself from doing so.
i put a post-it on my mirror that says NO PICKING
I’ve never popped or picked a pimple, but I still have so many dark spots leftover from 3+ years ago…
