I tried to go without shampooing my hair and it was just disgusting. And dirty hair really smells bad. You might not think it does, but trust me people around you can smell your nasty, yeasty hair. At least rinse it with some vinegar or something if you’re opposed to shampoo.
Baking soda works too. It’s like a clarifying shampoo, but my understanding is that you shouldn’t do that too often if your hair is long, because it strips the cuticle, something like that.
For Pantene and Locks For Love, they want you to use a clarifying shampoo. Makes sense.
@Kab1 it absolutely does. I was told by a doctor people are so used to their own scent that they don’t smell it as quickly as others do. Trust me. It smells!
@Ashley Rodriguez oh yeah, that doctor is absolutely right. The sane goes for the different odors that different individuals have about their clothing, things like that. We are animals. We do have body odors. It’s kind of disturbing that this tik Tok trend is actually advocating personal filth.
I’m not convinced “slugging” is good for the skin, either. I have an 18-year-old daughter ahd I told /warned her it might not be a good idea, especially with her complaining about blackheads. (Hers are very very minor, but… she is18, you know?’) Im putting together a college freshman Mom’ First I Miss You Care Package for her right now, and I’m going to include … what is that brand? Vanicream? Used to be called Vaniply? It’s an ointment but not petroleum.
But yup. Humans can be odiferous animals. And some are convinced their, uh, hair don’t stink. Oh. Well, okay. Enjoy the yeast.
@Noa⭕ It’s such a weird internet trend. I’m not even sure you can still call it a “trend”. It’s going on since almost 10 years. I was an impressionable teenager and would use so much dry shampoo thinking it was healthy😭 If your hair is greasy, wash it. End of story. Use dry shampoo if you have overslept. But don’t make it part of your routine.
Cleanse my face at night and in morning…when in my 20s and in cool humidity I washed my hair every other day. As I’ve gotten older I wash every day…just use richer shampoos and conditioners…lots of shea butter ♥️♥️
Even though its contraindicated for my hair type I wash everyday. I have thick coarse wavy hair and if I dont cleanse everyday my scalp becomes very irritated. I just offset any dryness with styling creams and sprays.
I wash my face twice a day. And my scalp once a day, thanks to your advice I now have the best scalp I have had since 15 years! I used to harsh shampoo, and thought my dermatitis would go away with no poo method. No no no. The best has been using mild surfactant shampoo. And ketokonazol once a week against the little yeast.
I have long thick 4c hair but I have noticed washing my hair 2-3 times a week is the sweet spot! it is more manageable and I have even noticed more growth and it helps with any itch I may have! I always thought with my hair type it would be opposite!
@Masha A. to wash my hair it takes about 20 minutes. I put 4 sections in my hair I wash, condition and detangle each section in the shower. It is so much easier now since I do it regularly and it is so much easier to detangle! Before it would take me close to an hour just to wash and condition and detangle.
Yes!! I have 4c and workout, I wash every 3-4 days and my hair is so soft and manageable. I think it depends on how coarse the hair is.. but I realized that my hair is fine and needs to be washed more to stay moisturizer and less tangled
My scalp is dandruff free since I started washing my hair every 2-3 days. I tend towards very dry skin/scalp. Hope same holds true for winter because loss of humidity and electric heat, uhgg
I have dry skin and hair too, and I’ve never had dandruff—knock wood. When I get way too busy and haven’t had time to wash and dry mine(it’s very long) people are surprised when I say, I gotta go, I haven’t washed my hair in four or five days. But I can feel it. Gross.
I shampoo it with a sulfate free shampoo every day and I use a clarifying shampoo once a week ( a shampoo with mild sulfates) and 1 hard sulfate shampoo a month lol
I now wash my hair every other day and my face at least once daily. Before following you, last year, I washed my hair every few days and my face every few days. Thanks to you, I learned my dandruff was due to oily scalp and am flake free now❤
I wash my hair every other day since my hair gets oily easily, but like you said, if I have a longer break than I usually do from washing my hair, I get dandruff itchiness and redness.
This is such a good point. I shampoo every other day or so and wash my face & moisturize every night before bed. Also washing pillow cases and bed sheets regularly is a very good thing!
I only learned this recently because of the trend to not wash frequently. Would love to see a video on scalp care – particularly how to help not make the yeast go wild.
Oh yes! While I may not do a deep shampoo (to avoid dryness). I make sure to massage under running water. It’s an invigorating part of my morning routine.
Thank you for this. I keep seeing how you should only wash your hair once a week – anything more is harmful. Personally, if I go any longer than 2-3 days, my scalp becomes an itchy, oily mess and my hair sometimes even hurts (likely from build-up).
I also do wash my face once a day (at night) – more so during the summer, when it is hot and humid.

Did you try not shampooing because of the trend?
@Gypsy Baby You might not be able to notice the smell of your own hair, but yes, dirty unwashed hair does smell.
@Kab1 it absolutely does. I was told by a doctor people are so used to their own scent that they don’t smell it as quickly as others do. Trust me. It smells!

I wash my face twice a day, and I usually wash my hair every three days.
Same
Same!
same, If it’s cold I just wipe my face in the morning though

I shampoo my hair every day :)

I shampoo my hair about 4 times a week, more so during the summer because I sweat a lot.

I wash my hair 2-3x a week and wash my face twice a day. Seems to work well for me.

how long does it take you if you dont mind sharing? and do you feel like the individual wash sessions are shorter wirh higher frequency?
facts. the max i can go is a week, after that my hair gets extremely dry. plus detangling is easier

What shampoo every day

I can only go a day without washing my hair 😭

i have about 3b/3c hair and i’ve noticed washing every week is good for me, doing it more frequently is just gonna cause my hair to get really dry
Following internet advice, stopped shampooing everyday, my hair health drastically went down. Back on daily routine and going strong.
