My son is actually one of the people allergic to vaporub, breaking out in burning hives wherever it has been applied
Yea the nice smells come from chemicals plants make to protect themselfs. They can be quite irritating. Id reccomend just a glycerol cream. Glycerol is something your skin already makes to keep your skin in balance, ita a byproduct from making soap and almost all beuty products are 90% glycerol. Its dirt cheap, works every time, you cant get a reaction and every store has it in stock. Hope it helps your son

Love vicks vaporub. My mother would rub this on our chests as children, then cover with a cotton cloth when we had a chest cold and cough. Yes for the feet too. Today just smelling it brings comfort and good memories 😊
