@Ms. Nguyen I was peeling and flaking- and it never seemed to resolve- plus had weird breakouts around the chin line- so the company where I get mine -Agency- lowered me back down to lowest percentage (theirs is a mix of several things- a formula they do for you). I went away for two weeks in Cancun and did not use tretinion as I knew I would be in the sun- used Maelove Moonlight. I felt like my skin was better- and now I am home and using the lower percentage tretinoin I have some itching etc. and the chin line seems a little reactive again and wonder if I shouldn’t just use a lower level retinoid. I am going to look and see if my guru Dr. Dray reviewed the Moonlight as I enjoyed it.
@Meggie Price there is no need to stop tretinoin when on a summer holiday. In fact it helps protect you against the sun anyway. People following these threads should know this by now.
@SueRosalie trentinoin makes my skin sensitive in general and I was in the very intense sun in Cancun- not a good combination for me. I switched to a good quality retinol while I was there and in fact I was so happy with my skin I am probably making the switch permanent.

I discovered your channel just recently and find it very informative. I would appreciate your advice on introducing retinol after 10 years of Biorecherche Lotion P50. I’ve used it for acne, really helps, no irriation ever, but I want to tackle my wrinkles too. How careful should I be with retinol since my skin has been very friendly with AHA and BHA exfoliants?

Dr Dray, or anyone with lots of hyperpigmentation knowledge – a question: I used the old ambi for a couple years in my late 30s/early 40s and it didn’t fade my big spot at all! I am wondering if I should even keep trying, but maybe it’s preventing even worse splotching. They did not sell real facial sunscreens in our town (the biggest one in the state) til recently, we all thought lotion w/ SPF was real sunscreen and the palest of us are quite spotty. I’ll keep using alpha arbutin since Dr says it is actual skin healthcare & I just got the one that’s also Vit C, but should I just accept it and quit trying to use cosmetic skincare to fade a 20 year old blotch? I also use niacinamide, which is too good for my pores to skip, but I could stop buying some other products like multi-ingredient serums and creams designed to even skin tone.
You might need to find a derm. They might give you a prescription (like hydroquinone or a combo hydroquinone/tretinoin) and/or a combination of laser treatments.
I had the same issue but the dermatologist got rid of it quickly with cryotherapy. It wasn’t too expensive and it worked fast!
I’ve avoided Ambi products for years due to the heavy fragrance that is added to so many of them. There are so few retinol products I can use without irritation so I’ll be sticking with my Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair cream. 😇

I miss OBAGI before they took out the active. UGH. Although ambi erased my scars , it gave me the worst cystic acne as a result of the other ingredients. I will definitely use this on my hand and feet as my face and neck crave more medical grade. Thanks for always keeping us in the know
When I go see my dermatologist now I know can “talk the talk” in terms of all things retinoids and hyperpigmentation. I even pulled out the term “ochronosis”She was in awe. I said it’s“thanks Dr. Dray!” .

My friend used the Ambi fade cream forever and I was like STOP !! Blond hair blue eye Italian with nice natural tan skin, she bleached it out with the Ambi and no matter how much it made her face ITCH and how pasty white she got, she wouldn’t stop. After I saw your LaRoche Posay talk last year, I begged her to try it and THANK God she loved it and switched. Whew.
