@JD-um8sq you can still get sunburned in the shade. Sunlight is being reflected back at you. The minority of UV rays actually hit you directly, even when you’re in direct line of sight with the sun. Reflected UV rays are just as harmful.
Why do ppl say sunscreen has ingredients in it that are bad for you? What exactly is in sunscreen that’s supposed to be damaging? I don’t get their argument bc
They’re anti science, they literally claim that science isn’t real of claim that every scientific study is a lie made by the government to sabotage them…
Not long ago I read about that – again- and I do not use sunscreen, I simply do not expose my body to the sun when it could cause me harm. I guess (iirc, open to being corrected) the chemical ones might be subject to systemic absorption through the skin but yeah there’s no indication that that’s cancer promoting and if you’re worried about it you could use a mineral (or primarily a zinc based one if titanium lowers nitric oxide production idk)
I think humans are really bad in general at evaluating relative risks (in part bc everything we do involves some kind of risk). I think a lot of people probably have some kind of sensory issues with applying sunscreen (which I don’t feel is unreasonable) but then they probably reach for cursory reasons to justify it (which isn’t reasonable).
Its not that ironic. Typical sunscreen on the market contains sun blocking ingrediants which are carcinogenic. Some are availabke without these ingredients.
@@triciadaily4512The real irony is that the misinformation and fear mongering about sunscreen filters specifically chemical filters being carcinogenic were about the older generational chemical filters not the newer generational ones of the more innovative sunscreens that have been coming about for the past 20+ years.
Ehh I feel Australian sunscreen is good for water resistance but as far as both UVB and UVA protection Europe takes the cake. They do lack good water resistant sunscreens though
I wonder if Infrared (which is heat) is also what contributes to Sunburn? Tanning Beds are pure UV and don’t cause Sunburn. I’m not saying it’s healthy because you can still get Skin Cancer from them.
But Sunburn is not the same although I’d imagine it helps the UV penetrate easier and is a sure sign to GTFO of the Sun.
Well, George, if you had a mind of your own and didn’t constantly listen to every walking propaganda machine, that wouldn’t have happened. I’m no yogi. However, I’d say the fitting word here would be karma. 😊
@DebbieTDP yes you’re right, she did say that. But what about people who need to be out and about all day? We can’t just find shade all day long. Interesting take from her
Many years ago I spent the day with a friend walking a beach boardwalk in late spring. I didn’t wear sunscreen, thinking it wasn’t necessary – wasn’t sitting in the sand near the water. The next day I was almost unrecognizable, my face & eyes were so swollen with sunburn. Never did that again – it was a painfully awful & scary experience.

This is why it mandatory for kids to wear a sun hat if they are planing to play outdoor because the sun is brutal
wish I knew this before spending every summer day in 100 degree weather with 0 sunscreen or any care in the world for the sun smh
Okay but I’m impressed that was the takeaway. Unfortunate it took physical harm to reach it, but a sound conclusion nonetheless.
Like my mom said: “Live and learn.”
If you watch the rest Barbara says to lay in the sun for 15 min and then get under an umbrella. It’s about moderation.
This really is the move. Why risk using chemicals when you can physically block the sun
@@JD-um8sqchemicals? Bro EVERYTHING is a chemical, YOU are made up of chemicals
Just because you won’t get burned doesn’t mean you didn’t incur DNA damage
The best “moderation” for sunlight is to receive none of it
Vitamin D can come from supplements

Benzene, for one.
Sunscreen used to just be Zinc. Nowadays they put other ingredients in to increase the SPF and so the layer doesn’t come off as quick.
Ideally, you should put on a shirt, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, but also seek shade.
The cosmic-level irony of trying to avoid cancer by NOT wearing sunscreen
Its not that ironic. Typical sunscreen on the market contains sun blocking ingrediants which are carcinogenic. Some are availabke without these ingredients.
You’re the kind of person that says “Hah! I told you so”.

Australia has the highest standards for sunscreen and has a ranking list you can find online

That’s why I take my time every morning to make sure I cover myself in sunscreen and take it with me and sunglasses and a hat and water .
She seems truly disappointed 😂
I have a UV ap on my phone. If it’s over 4 I’m covered.
Sunburns are radiation burns with good PR

That is George Janko watched him in many interviews!
As an Australian, it really shocked me to see Americans have this phobia or disbelief in sunscreen. We don’t mess with the sun here

If you watch the whole video, the lady he’s speaking to goes on to say u don’t need sunscreen…
Barbra O’Neil I think
She said 14/15minutes then go under shadow.
