    1. Use kojic acid and retinol to fade them. I use and highly recommend Skinlyte Natural Kojic Acid Soap. It’s packed with powerhouse ingredients like Kojic Acid, Retinol, Collagen, Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, and Turmeric. I keep one in the shower and one by the sink for face washing and spot treatments. What sets this apart is that Kojic Acid is a natural tyrosinase inhibitor, which actively prevents hyperpigmentation and melasma. For the best results, I use it as a ‘leave-on’ serum or mask: after washing, just wet the bar and apply it directly to dark spots or breakouts. When used daily this way, acne typically heals in 3 to 5 days without leaving scars. It’s completely free of synthetic fragrances (no hidden phthalates) and artificial colors, making it gentle enough to leave on all day. You can find it on Amazon—it’s currently on sale for just $9.99 for a two-bar pack.

  1. As someone who’s dealt with eczema before, anything containing corticosteroids should be used carefully, even mild ones like hydrocortisone.

Only apply it to areas with visible redness and itching. Use it once a day and for no more than a week.

Apply it with clean hands or a Q-tip, and make sure to wash your hands thoroughly afterward.

If the redness and itching come back after you stop using steroids, that means you’re dealing with a chronic skin condition and you should see a derm for non-steroid treatment options.

    1. Perhaps people should take advice from a dermatologist and not some rando on FB who thinks they know better than a board certified dermatologist.

Yes, you need to be careful with all topical steroids but applying a small amount 2-4 times a day (as instructed on the box) to a bug bite for a short duration is not going to harm the majority of people.

If you are prescribed topical steroids you should definitely make sure you understand the pros and cons of using them and discuss these with your doctor and/or pharmacist.

    2. she’s speaking about hydroquinone not hydrocortisone! they sound similar but they’re definitely different lol

    3. Good thing she didn’t recommend a single corticosteroid here. I actually found her videos when I was looking for info about the specific kind of eczema I was dealing with. She was the only derm with a video up about periocular eczema and she definitely stressed the dangers of topical steroids.

Hydroquinone is a pretty interesting drug. It stops the enzyme that produces melanin from doing exactly that. Doesn’t function at all like a topical steroid.

    4. @cass1478 If you actually watched the video like the rest of us did, you’d she didn’t only recommend hydrocortisone which is a mild steroid, but also Tri-Luma, which has a much more potent corticosteroid called fluocinolone acetonide.

  2. I got a group of bites two years ago. I never had bites turn brown before. These turned and I’ve tried some age spot serum on them, but it’s not a fast process. I’ve gotten mosquito bites again and I have immediately put hydrocolloid (pimple) patches on my bites. No brown marks with those. Dr Dray said it helped with the itching and it kept mine invisible too. It pulls out a white puss on most bites. I have a box at home all times. I even vacation with those patches.

    1. It isn’t pus – it’s the swelling up of the hydrocolloid gel from pulling moisture out of your skin.

    2. @Jea@JeanieD
I’ve read that the discharge from a bug is referred to as “puss”. After reading your comment, I found the following that white milky discharge occurs when your immune system’s white blood cells fight off bacteria, creating a buildup of dead cells and tissue.
Also, this information is from the Band-Aid company:
“The patches then remove all the impurities, resulting in the gel-like substance that sticks to the dressing. This is what you’ll usually see forming a white bubble in your BAND-AID® Brand HYDRO SEAL® adhesive bandages.”
      Thank you for your reply.

    3. @victoriaglass7584”Puss” is not a medical term, so that thing you read somewhere has no credibility.

    4. @JeanieD we all know what puss is, we’re talking as consumers not making a legal medical report.

  3. You are my hero. (Heroine?) Mosquitos find me from miles away, to the point where I wear long pants, closed shoes and knee high socks- even in Summer. And when I get bites, there are so many it looks like FLEA bites. Lovely. Thank you so much for looking out for us!

    1. Same. I am a mosquito buffet. Now I use picaridin gel or lotion and rarely get bit.
I also saw a study that said coconut scented soaps can reduce bite frequency so I use Native coconut vanilla body wash in the summer. Does it actually help? I honestly can’t say but since I don’t mind the bodywash it definitely doesn’t hurt.

    2. Spot treat the bites with kojic acid and retinol. I use and highly recommend Skinlyte Natural Kojic Acid Soap. It’s packed with powerhouse ingredients like Kojic Acid, Retinol, Collagen, Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, and Turmeric. 4. this protocol sounds super-promising! those hydrocolloid patches are a revelation…yet i should’ve guessed, as they’re pretty effective at avoiding exacerbated zits..lol!

  5. I wish I could have known this when I was 12 years old and didn’t realize I was standing on a fire ant mound until they were halfway up my leg! I didn’t wear shorts for decades after that. 😞

  6. Hey Dr. Dray. Sage advice as all of this rain has caused the mosquito population to explode. ❤

  7. This is my biggest insecurity. From childhood to now, all bugs, mosquitoes, ticks, fleas love me. And I cry every time they leave me scars. I thought about those expensive laser scar removers whatnots but I figured that even if they worked, I would still get new scars.

    1. there’s skincare that can help! and wearing clothing that covers your skin in bug-dense areas, having a netting over your bed etc. i promise, you are not less beautiful because of big bite scars! if someone brings it up, just tell them how delicious you clearly must he to have all these big bites! 😂

    2. This cream she mentioned I have and it doesn’t work. Also causes extreme sun sensitivity. What did work for me on my legs and arms is raw shea butter after every shower .

    3. My son is the same way. A lot of times he’ll be the only one getting bit. And those bites tend to get inflamed. I have a whole first aid kit dedicated to his bites. No shorts for him and no sun on the bites. But yeah he has a a lot of marks on his legs. They’ve been slowly fading. No going outside late afternoon when those damn mosquitos are active

    4. Prevent and get rid of the scars with kojic acid and retinol. I use and highly recommend Skinlyte Natural Kojic Acid Soap. It’s packed with powerhouse ingredients like Kojic Acid, Retinol, Collagen, Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, and Turmeric. 8. Actually just what I needed! Got a bevy of dark marks from random bites that don’t seem to be fading. Will give this a try!

  9. Hydroquinone is banned within the EU and the UK where it’s a prescription-only medicine for treating hyperpigmentation under strict medical supervision.
Primarily due to the risk of exogenous ochronosis, a severe and often permanent skin disfigurement, alongside concerns about skin irritation and potential carcinogenicity.

    1. That is why you should use kojic acid and retinol. 10. That happened to me a few years back when i was in Guatemala. Someone recommended Sana-Sana its texture is like an ointment, it comes in a small round green container with a frong on it. It helped with the itching right away and it got rid of the spots not over night of course. But the spots did fade away completely.

  11. Impressive how you pack so much valuable content into such a short amount of time 👏🏻

  12. Vicks Vapo rub works wonders with itchy mosquito bites
applying it right after the bite, soothes, cools and relieves
