    1. Can you create a video about spironolactone for androgenic alopecia over a lifespan? Do you have patients taking it for life? Do people opt to transition to a wig instead of a prescription, eventually? Long term impact to kidneys (it’s a diuretic). Curious what most patients end up doing (start and stop, stay on for years, stay on for decades), and you’d have that perspective as a doctor.

  1. OK but who told him to eat buckets of fat? If he ate whole sticks of butter and 9 lbs of cheese on a salad every day he’d still have had this issue. I’m not a fan of special diets except when they are necessary for a health condition so I’m not defending the carnivore diet, but I also don’t think he was doing it as intended. This was an interesting case.

    1. I don’t care for elimination diets either, but I think they see medical doctors eating sticks of butter to stay in ketosis on social media (at least I’ve seen this).

    2. Totally agree. I have progressively increased my (lean) protein intake and decreased my carbs intake and it has definitely helped me with focus and not getting sleepy during the day. Howeverrrr I’m not eating and would not eat such amount of fat. My blood test are constantly okay.

    3. I’ve seen the butter-eater too. She’s out of control. Nobody who’s graduated from a reputable medical school could possibly imagine that this is a good thing, and presenting it as endorsed medical advice is both dangerous and unprofessional. There’s so much “cult mentality” around fad diets, particularly the part where the members of the cult believe themselves to be the custodians of a “real truth” that’s being wickedly suppressed by nefarious industry lobby groups in collusion with governments, and professional associations, worldwide. 🙄

  2. I did the carnivore diet for two years. I was always constipated, requiring daily laxatives (yes, a I ate a lot of fat, carnis). I suffered from debilitating muscle cramps due to lack of electrolytes that are NOT in meat, diary, and eggs. My cholesterol shot up to dangerous levels, and my healthcare providers wanted me on statins and blood pressure medication. I developed one skin tag. Due to lack of carbohydrates, humans preferred fuel, I was profusely tired. I had no motivation. The diet was extremely boring, since it only consist of rotating meat, dairy, and eggs.

I have been plant based for two years now, because I decided to return to the diet that worked for me (and many others). My mood is much better. Skin looks better. Have more energy. My diet is vibrant and colorful. It’s exciting and diverse. I love cooking authentic Indian and other Asian plant-based recipes. I like that my fridge does not look like a slaughterhouse. I no longer suffer from muscle cramps and constipation. The ‘carnivore diet’ is in fact a dangerous fad diet. A plant-based woman hereon YouTube had a stroke on the carnivore diet, and like me, she went back to plant-based dieting.

    1. Did your digestion just accept the switch back to high fiber food after such a long break from it? I would expect the gut microbiome to change substantially during a 2 year stretch without any plant food.
I would love to eat a more plant based diet, but I always end up with a severely bloated and irritated digestive tract, if I eat high fiber foods. And typical low fiber carb foods like rice or potatoes make me gain weight really quickly, so that’s not an option, either.

    2. There is something called a balanced diet you no. You don’t have to go to any extreme on either end that’s yours and many people issues they go to far on one side.

    3. @raraavis7782 definitely take it slowly, and do see a doctor and/or dietician. It could be a super easy fix. All the best to you! 🤙

  3. Thanks Dr. Dray! I just started prednisone for back pain and I’m hoping I don’t develop this but I appreciate this information. Amazing how much shows up on the skin when things are out of whack! Have a great weekend Dr. Dray! Go Bills!

  4. What this guy did is NOT how most people eat on a carnivore diet. This was extreme! This is the type of case and reporting that scares people away from something that could be very healing to them. It is good to highlight the problems with extremes, but at 70 my doctor is amazed that by switching my diet to mostly carnivore/ketovore with a few veggies (2 yrs on a higher protein, moderate fat , and carbs usually below 20) that my thyroid is better, my A1C is 4.9 (was pre-diabetic), all my bloodwork is better, I have lost weight (not just a claim!:) , have more energy, CAC is 0, colonoscopy clean, hair and skin better. I believe in educating oneself before doing something and then don’t follow something like a religion, but see if it is actually making you healthier and make adjustments if needed. In this case, even my doctor conceded going mostly carnivore has made me healthier and she is vegetarian. Clearly the person in the case you highlight took a concept to an unhealthy extreme for themselves with so much butter etc..I’m sure we don’t have the full picture of what this person was doing either. It is also sad that this has to demonize a way of eating (some see as extreme and others as just a healthier diet for humans) that might actually have a lot of benefit for someone else who is more balanced in their approach. I don’t think it is for everyone. You have to figure out what works best for your health, but it has worked for me.

  5. As you’re seeing in the comments. People on the carnivore don’t eat pounds of butter and cheese daily, so this case in the video is not an example of the ketogenic carnivore diet.

Modern Carnivore is: meat, eggs, fish/shellfish (optional), and some dairy (optional). Original pure carnivore is: meat or fish/shellfish, and cooking with any animal fat like ghee, butter, tallow, etc. and/or adding any organ meats (optional). Eating until you’re full, then stopping. This is the way to get all of the nutrients you need.

Personally, I am not carnivore, but still mainly animal based. (Meat, Fish, Eggs, Yogurts, Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Kimchi, Sauerkraut, wild blueberries sometimes, sweet potatoes sometimes, plantains sometimes, arugula sometimes, etc…) Basically high protein, moderate fat, and low carbohydrates. I no longer have eczema marks that form randomly, dry skin, anger problems, chest pains, chronic fatigue, or insufferable painful menstrual period cramps (biggest reason keeping me on this low carb diet), but I still get anxiety, at least it’s only social anxiety that still returns a lot. I have to find other ways to manage mental stress.

There are a lot of other benefit to eating high protein, with fat, and low carbohydrates. Eating until you’re full, obviously not over-eating or under-eating, and making sure your electrolytes are balanced. This is the true ketogenic way. That’s why most on ketogenic diet whether carnivore, omnivores, or vegetarians, etc, are healthy. This example was not any variation of a healthy ketogenic diet.

    1. You just said this guy did it wrong and then described his diet as the modern (correct?) way so I am confused. I personally stick to evidence based nutrition.

    2. I think this is a great video because it shows what happens when someone goes on a diet without researching what it’s actually about. Because this guy on the “carnivore” diet didn’t do his due diligence to make sure he was eating accordingly.

  6. This man did it wrong, a carnivore doesn’t eat that much cheese or fat. I’ve tried many diets throughout the years, vegan, raw vegan etc, and now do Ketovore/animal based, I can vouch that it works for me, less inflammation and overall great benefits (unfortunately processed foods, oils, most vegetables and grains can cause inflammation), each person is unique so they need to try and see what works for them.

    1. You stated correctly it is seed oils and processed foods that are inflammatory. Fruits and vegetables are not inflammatory. Your gut may need work to improve your health.

    2. @ in my case greens and some vegetables don’t sit right with me but fruit does. Once I cut back on the veggies I felt better, every body is different

    3. @@run4cmt Many plant products ARE inflammatory because of the antinutrient content. They are a double edges sword.

  7. I think you handled this respectfully Dr.Dray. I appreciate when you cover things like this. Abnormal is definitely not good in cases like this.

  8. As a person with genetic high cholesterol, I feel like my cholesterol levels increased just by hearing about the person’s diet 🫠😂

    1. You are missing crucial nutrients for long-term health. Dr. William Davis in his book Supergut asserts that a carnivore diet does long-term damage to the gut biome. The damage may not be reversible.

    2. @@run4cmtbased on my bowel movements since being on zero fibre keto carnivore, I absolutely know my gut is the healthiest it’s ever been with this way of eating, pharma fearporn won’t deter me, (just as it didn’t in 2020)
ps with ketones (BHB) in blood circulation, this is much more advantageous to fuelling gut epithelium, and there is no need whatsoever to ferment fibre to fuel these gut cells. So please share what makes carbohydrates and fibre crucial nutrients for long term health? Both are wholly unnecessary (or in my words, ‘junk’ to the body)

  9. It’s one thing to be on the carnivore diet, but what he ate on the diet was trash. Loads of cheese in one day?! I’m not saying the carnivore diet is good or bad…just that what he was eating on the diet wasn’t even proper FOR the carnivore diet. You can’t just eat a stick of butter or pounds of cheese in a day. So I wouldn’t necessarily attribute this to the carnivore diet per se….he was eating unhealthily in general.
