  1. This information is good to know. Now I have a better idea of what to try with retinol. The red sweater looks lovely on you.❤

  2. I have been watching skincare YT videos for years and years, and I mean it when I tell you that you have had so much more influence on my skin’s health than anyone else ever has. Thank you for your content! <3

  3. Happy Monday!! Dr. Dray, that red hue is perfect for your skin tone, just lovely. I am switching from 1.5 years of 0.1% adapelene use to 0.5% tretinion gel, so this video is a perfect refresher for me, thank you.

    1. omg i switched to 0.5% tret after a year on adapalene too and let me tell you the dryness is still constant if I’m not careful 😂 for me it’s especially bad around the perioral area I have to apply moisturizer before tret

    2. I use trent. 0.5 as well♡ how often should I be? Right now I do once a week because it made me wicked dry.

    3. @Brittney Grisolia do you moisturize before using tret? I find that it helps to moisturize before tretinoin, especially at the beginning. And avoid putting it on very sensitive areas around the mouth or nose.

  4. Hello Dr. Dray, I have been using the Beauty of Joseon AHA+BHA toner 20 minutes before my Tretinoin 0.1% and it has done wonders for my skin. A lot of British dermatologists would agree with you though on not using AHA or BHA just before your Tretinoin as it can irritate the skin. I was actually warned about it due to me having oily skin with patches of eczema but I have managed it! 🥰🥰🥰

    1. i actually just bought that one to pair with my adapalene 0.3%. i plan on using it in the mornings for some gentle exfoliation and my bubble daydream serum for evening out tone and texture. a little scared to use it though because my skin had a freak-out around my chin and got red and tender so i plan on not using it till that’s sorted. glad it’s working for you!

  5. In Dr Alexis Stephens’ video on using vit a and vit c together, she recommends (when it comes to AA) applying the vit c first, waiting 30 minutes and then using your retinoid.

    1. @Sammy C It’s also why in her video, she recommends using products formulated with both ingredients. She goes over different scenarios for both ingredients as well as addresses vit c derivatives.

    2. @Sammy C exactly. All dermatologist would agree that the most important thing is consistency and if i have to wait 30 minutes between ingredients then I won’t follow through. I will gladly wait 30 minutes between moisturizer and tret, but at that stage I have already done the rest of my skincare and I also know that tretinoin is well worth the hassle whereas Vit c is maybe not as game changing

  6. Dear Dr. Dray, I recently became aware of concerns around use of retinol around the eyes, and a possible connection to dry eye issues. Specifically, that some studies have shown that retinol can damage the meibomian glands of the eyes. Is this something we retinol/retinoid users should be concerned about? Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for all the great skincare content!

    1. She’s already done one. Also, so have optometrists/opthalmologists like Dr. Rupa Wong, Eye School with Dr. D., Doctor Eye Health, Dr. EyeGuy, etc.

  7. Hi Dr Dray! I have rosacea and melasma and started tretinoin a couple of months ago. This video has helped me so much, and stopped all the questions from swimming around my head about if I could use my hydroquinone at night with the Tretinoin. As I was getting used to the tretinoin, I just use the hydroquinone on the nights where I wasn’t using it, but starting a week and a half ago, I was able to use my Tretinoin every night. Yay! So I wasn’t sure if I was okay, but I fearfully started using both every night. My melasma has gotten so much better! I I am so grateful that I can stop worrying about that now thanks to you. And my rosacea has gotten better over the last three days, and I really think that has something to do with the Iunik Beta Glucan Power moisture serum that you reviewed and recommended. It really helped so much in keeping my face moisturized while I was using the sunblock during the day, and thus making my skin barrier so much less irritated. I also started the I’m from race toner that you recommended, and both have been wonderful in improving my skin. It’s been very tricky getting to this point where I can use the treadmill in every day, but so much credit goes to you, because I have used your advice every step of the way and your recommendations for what to stay away from and what to use. The Korean skin care that you’ve recommended has been so helpful and so gentle, and the La Roche Posey cicaplast balm and the Cerave healing ointment have both been my saving grace recommendations from you. Thank you so much for everything! Have a great week!

    1. I was using the voice command typing, so I apologize for all the mistakes. It was supposed to say rice toner and tretinoin not treadmill. Ha ha ha ha

    2. @Cindyj🌻 I’ve only gotten to the point where I can take it every day for the last week and a half. I have to say that the last two days have been the first two days that my cheeks haven’t been flush and super red in a few months, and no heat or burning. I’m hoping it’s because I have gotten to the point that I’ve been taking the tretinoin daily, but I am still just over the retinization process and unsure yet. I know tretinoin can help rosacea, so I am hoping it is starting to help me. I guess I will know in a month or two.

    3. What does the lunik serum ( is that the name? does excavation where can I find it?
I started retinol a few years ago and religiously use spf but two sun spots that I have never go away . I am now usind vit c and mae love spot serum but still no effect

  8. I’ve been using Faded by Topicals over my 0.5 Retinol and it’s amazing!

Retinol 0.5 Selfless by Hyram + Faded by Topicals + La Roche Posay Toleriane Creme + B Oil by The Ordinary (twice a week)

    And

Retinol + La Roche Posay Toleriane Creme + Fresh Calming Mask or Biossance Squalane + Vitamine C Rose Oil (twice a week)

  9. Thank you for your content! I have learned so much from you about skin and I love your budget friendly, sound recommendations!

  10. Thank you for this useful video. And your look is amazing today, everything from the makeup to the hairdo and the sweater is so on point!

  11. learned so much from this video, thanks Dr. Dray! Retinol is a tricky one especially for those of us with more sensitive skin

  12. I’m 48, and suffered from bad, painful, large, cystic acne for decades. I now take oral Spironolactone, and topical Tretinoin, and this is the chefs kiss combination for acne for women. My face has never in my life been this clear and smooth. I will never be without this combo

  13. I love this eyeshadow look! I went ham awhile back and bought a bunch of eyeshadow palettes, but I find it difficult to wear certain colors including purple. I really like this look though, and I definitely will be trying something similar 😊

  14. Dr. Dray as a cosmetologist can I tell you red is your color! Thank you for all your videos! Since I started watching your videos and following your advice my skin has never looked better and I spend so much less on product now because I’m not wasting my money spending $85-$125 a product. Thank you again!

  15. Hi Dr Drey. A company has recently started advertising that retinal/retinol is toxic. Environmental working group rated retinol as a 9 out if 10 on their scale for toxicity. Your thoughts? Is retinol a carcinogen? Thanks in advance.

  16. Thanks for this very informative, no BS video as usual. Much appreciated and gives me peace of mind about how I am combining my other skincare with tretinoin because I have been super cautious here not to aggravate my skin.

  17. Love your videos! I’ve had a frustrating journey w/acne as an adult (now 49). I had acne when I was a teen and ended up taking Accutane which DID help a lot and I’m lucky not to have bad looking skin. For years, I’ve still battled w/acne (used Paula’s Choice Clear line for years) then things just turned upside down for me. So here I am, using Tretinoin 1%, taking Spiro at 100mg, and on my own I’ve found that PC 10% Azaleic acid is a big helper as well as Tower 28 SOS Rescue Serum (hypochlorous acid!). I AM seeing a Derm and been documenting how I’ve started incorporating the azaleic acid and hypochlorous acid. It’s been difficult trying to find a good moisturizer for during the day, though. I use Cerave moisturizing cream (thank you for that recommendation!) at night, but I still have little flaky areas during the day, so if I want to wear a bit of makeup, kind of an issue. Wondered if anyone has any good ideas. Thank you so much for all your YT content. It’s really helped my skin and my confidence!

  18. This is my kind of content! Online dermatologists rarely speak about retinoid + azelaic acid combination, and if so, their explanations are usually rather too short for me.

But is this combo okay for those healing their moisture barrier or for those whose skin get easily irritated?
