  1. Dr. Dray I got one of those UV compact mirrors with the camera so I can check my sunscreen application 🤠

  2. Could you explain number 4 more? If they have sunscreen on why does it matter that they’re laying in the sun. I’m black; so I don’t tan. Just don’t completely understand.. ☺️

    1. sunscreen is sort of a last line of defense, it doesnt work nearly as well as just covering up with clothing, umbrellas etc

    2. I’m under the impression it’s because it’s just a filter. It can’t completely block it. I don’t remember if it was Dr Dray or Lab Muffin but one of them said it’s kinda like stacking Swiss cheese, you know, there’s some holes like skip areas or between fibers of clothing but if you combine it with clothing and shade etc it helps a lot to protect you more.

    3. Probably since when you’re outside, the recommendation is to reapply every two hours. And while as a darker skinned people some of us don’t tan, we do still have to worry about sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and skin cancer at least.

    4. @@itchysheets1222 That was Lab Muffin with the Swiss cheese assessment. She’s good at the deep dives and graphics.

  3. Dr. Dray your eyes look really beautiful today — that mascara is awesome!! (I hope not to hear that it causes racoon eyes by the end of day 😮)

    1. Lol I was just thinking that it was horribly clumpy. One man’s trash really is another man’s treasure. I love that about life. 😂

  4. I’m 62 years old. I have no wrinkles because I’ve worn sunscreen every day since I was 23. My mother had cancer when I was 19 so I’ve always avoided the sun. My brother had skin cancer during COVID. I always cover up outside, sit in the shade and wear a hat. I thank my mother as she taught me not to tan with baby oil. It was the 70’s and I only once did it once. Thanks Mama! Luv you!!!❤️

    1. Same here! I use sunscreen 365 days a year and at age 52 I don’t have any wrinkles our sun damage and people are shocked at my real age

    2. @@TaylorPhase Not necessarily. Other than a few lines in an area that is repeatedly moved, like minor crow’s feet on a chronic smiler, at 62 someone who has always protected their skin can be remarkably wrinkle-free. The wrinkles people often associate with aging are actually the result of sun damage to collagen and elastin. That results in lax skin. My dad is in his 70s, and other than a few minor crow’s feet that mostly only show when he’s laughing, his skin is remarkably smooth on his face and arms and hands. He’s been an indoor scientist since his 20s, and always wears a brimmed hat outside.

  5. I use spf50 every day (and have done for yrs) 1 accurately measure 1/4tsp for face/ears and 1/4tsp for neck/throat….:)

  6. My old roommate would tell me wearing physical barriers instead of sunscreen was going to cause me to get skin cancer.
I was still looking for ones that actually worked I kept finding ones that melted off immediately.

No idea why he thought all the layers I wore were going to be less effective than sunscreen though.

  7. I’ve been wearing sunscreen since about 2018, when I first discovered your channel. That alone has provided so many benefits! Thank you so much!

  8. I can’t wear 2 fingerfuls of my mineral sunscreen. It’s so thick and white that I can only manage 2 fingertips worth, 2 dabs. I don’t want to look like a ghost all day, and it feels heavy on my skin.

  9. Why are people so affraid of chemical sunscreens as long as it doesn’t irritate your skin or burn your eyes no problem it doesn’t leave a white cast I wear two different brands that I love the Dr. Dray wears and aI trust her 100%!

    1. It’s perfectly healthy. If outdoors strolling for a long time, it’s the same as lying on the beach ⛱️ after applying with no other protection. As the video just mentioned.

  10. I couldn’t hear a thing u were saying bc I was too busy obsessing over your natural lashes. Plz tell the secret doctor. Plz!

  11. ❤ Does sunscreen still protect as well when we reapply it over makeup? ☀️ I know it must go beforehand to absorb properly. How does this work after makeup is on? What are your best tips for reapplying over makeup?

  12. I’ve heard it’s “safe” to skip SPF when the UV index is between 0-2. I check the UV index, but I still wear the SPF, as my skin is sensitive and my medication makes me extra sun sensitive/ burn easily. It’s surprising how often it’s over 3, even when you wouldn’t expect it.

  13. Every Australian knows this: ⛱️😊
“Slip, slop, slap, seek, and slide”.
2 out of 3 Aussies are diagnosed with skin cancer. The steps are:
    Slip: on protective clothing.
    Slop: on sunscreen.
    Slap: on a wide-brimmed hat.
    Seek: shade.
    Slide: on wraparound sunglasses.
This campaign was popularized by the Cancer Council in Australia.

The Cancer Council campaign has been telling us since we were babies!

The campaign phrase was originally “Slip, Slop, Slap” originally highlighted the importance of sun-protective clothing, sunscreen, and hats. The addition of “seek” and “slide” emphasizes the importance of shade and eye protection.

Just some fun facts from Australia ❤

  14. People in North America generally do not take sun safety seriously. It seems to be baked into our culture that you only need to wear it when it’s summer, sunny or when your out for long periods. As a fair skinned individual, these kinds of attitudes did not work for me, especially since I seem to burn rather quickly even before winter has come to an end. Yes, I have had a sunburn in March. Yes, it’s possible to have UV exposure when it’s cloudy. Yes, you should build a habit of applying sunscreen regularly. It may take some time, but the worse case scenario is you dont burn and your skin is better hydrated and protected. I see people, especially in the summer walking around with red lobster arms and back and think how painful it must be. I always try to cover up and people will make comments like “aren’t you hot” and it doesn’t seem to occur to them the reason why I’d rather be hot and not burned. 😢

  15. A few years ago i saw someone say they read about zinc sunscreen being bad over time and was wondering what your thoughts on mineral sunscreen is since i cant really wear chemical sunscreen.
