  1. Thank you for including the importance of mental health 🙏 I’m a therapist and it concerns me that mental health is often discounted. I’ve seen the link between skin and mh my entire career 💜

    1. I wonder what the relationship is between between common psychiatric disorders and dermatological conditions, if any.

  2. Mental health care is so important. Anyone out there struggling, please know you are so important to this world and I hope you are getting the care, love and support you deserve. Sending hugs to everyone 🤗

    1. @Maynard’s Spaceship please call your doctor and make an appt. My heart truly goes out you. I will say a prayer for you. 💗

    2. @Maynard’s Spaceship it will pass. Just give it time. Every day that passes is another day closer to feeling better.
Please know that you are not alone. I have been there before, not wanting to live many times in my life.
Please but yourself first and reach out for professional assistance. I would not be where I am today had I not been vunrible and told a dr of my mental state.
Best wishes and happy new year. X🥰

    3. @Maynard’s Spaceship my heart goes out to you. My best friend of 30 years passed 4 years ago and I still haven’t recovered.

  3. Me, at rock bottom with my depression and wondering why my skin is breaking out, has never clicked on video so quickly.

    1. @T Bell The comment is so vague I thought it was one of her herpes bots. I had to double check the username. Ambiguous one liners like that make it way easier for bots to prey on a broadcaster.

    2. She was vague because she has discussed this topic in depth with entire videos dedicated to the topic before. So rather than write a paragraph on what she did entire videos on, she summarized it in her straight forward fashion.

  4. Love your denim jacket, looks great😍 Thanks for addressing this topic. My late mother, who was clinically depressed but never sought therapy, once told me “If I wasn’t so unhappy, I wouldn’t be so wrinkled” ( She also smoked a lot which led to her death and was addicted to tanning) Great video, Happy Wednesday 💖

  5. Thank you for this Dr dray! I have a really bad habit of picking my finger nails and skin. It’s definitely gotten worse this year as I’m in my second year of med school, I always suspected it had to do with my anxiety but loved how you presented the facts thank you!

  6. You help with my stress. This past weekend, I was busy with a bunch of desk work, and I was unable to get out into the fresh air. That’s a real bummer. But I put on some of your Vlogs, especially your travel Vlogs,, and it really helped lighten my mood. I felt like I was hanging out with you Kinda. Thanks so much Dr. Dray.

  7. No kidding. My skin clears up and glows whenever I’m on vacation, away from my stressful job & life. Exercise (cardio and/or pilates) also helps with “shutting down” your thoughts. 👍🏻

  8. Thank you for pointing out that mental health is important! ❤️ These past few years have been tough on a lot of us, especially when feeling stressed and depressed. Thankfully, I found your channel last year, and taking care of my skin has allowed me to take better care of myself as a whole! You’re wonderful, and we thank you so much! 💝

  9. Mental health is so important. When you are insecure or you look at social media and see the ridiculous beauty standards it can effect your well-being and emotions. We are seeing a generation of women and men losing themselves to depression and doing things to their faces in their 20s. The psychiatric community is seeing young people harming themselves and having suicidal thoughts because they don’t feel pretty or enough.
We have got to change the message and start helping people to love who they are. We have to show reality and stop the false images and change the story on beauty and skin and aging 🍑🙌🏻🧡Lisa

  10. I was in an abusive marriage for 19 years, even though I am very petite and have a baby face, at 43 I have a lot of wrinkling and sagging on my face and neck compared to my friends who’ve had better lives.
Thank you for this. It is very timely for a lot of us

  11. Hi Dr.Dray! I have had treatment resistant depression and anxiety for the last 3 1/2 years. I finally found two medication‘s, that in combination, have started to work for me. It got so bad that I tried ECT and also did TMS. I knew I was feeling better when I finally started taking care of my skin again. Unfortunately, I had a mess of untreated rosacea, a lot of hyper pigmentation from melasma, and just overall poor skin quality. I started watching your channel about eight months ago, and you have helped me so much to understand the right things I needed to do to get my skin on track again. When I finally went to the dermatologist, I knew the right things to ask because of you. And I wasn’t filled in very much by the dermatologist about the way to use my medication’s, but you took care of that as well. Another thing that happened along the way watching your videos, was that I found that watching your vlogs helped my stress. When I see the beginning of your video when you’re finishing your exercise and making your coffee with the press, and doing your skin routine and daily errands, it brings me some sort of peace. Watching your routine has become my routine, and it is good to know that I can go back and watch logs from the past on days that I need to destress while I wash my face and do my routine. Everything in this video really hit home for me. My rosacea flares up so much when I get stressed. And I also have a habit with rubbing my nails from side to side when I am anxious. I appreciate it so much that you made a video about mental health. You are the only dermatologist that I have found on YouTube that talks about EVERYTHING to do with skin health . You cover the good, The bad, and the ugly parts of skin health. Hahahaha. The other dermatologists seem to cover the same basic things over and over. You talk about the things that people need to know, but are so afraid to ask their doctors about. Your videos are so valuable to us, probably even more than you realize. Thank you for being you, and for helping us!!!

  12. “[People] see things online that they think are the way the world is when in reality it’s just a highlight reel.” I think this message was nicely stated and can apply to many different facets of the internet in this era inundated with rapid imagery and information. More people need to be reminded of this.

  13. Having shingles at only age 40 definitely made me realize just how strong the connection between mental health and physical is. It’s really easy to not take the physical impacts of stress seriously. But, it was entirely triggered by stress. Being able to see and feel that rash made me realize it’s not just a joke. There is probably a lot more damage going on that isn’t so easy to see.

After years of battling depression, I’ve found the one thing that helps me most is swimming. Sunshine, chlorine, saltwater, prolonged time in water, and goggle marks. All things that have wrecked my skin. But I do what I can to mitigate those factors, and the sort of glow from within when I’m feeling good helps balance it out. (P.S. Maybe when it’s closer to summer can you do another video on swimming? Maybe address the goggle issue?)

    1. But also, the first major battle I had with depression is what caused me to get into skincare. Starting a whole ridiculous 14 step routine was my meditation, my way of trying to stay in the present moment. Just focus on the textures, the smells, and focusing on just one step at a time. It was excessive, but got me thru tough times.

    2. same. i had a rash on my back. but healed with antiviral pills and cream very quickly. god damn that pain. probably because i had cVid before and was crying non stop when war in Ukraine started. everything contributed

  14. When my Dad passed away, my Mom literally aged 10 years in a short period of time. I knew she wasn’t eating, sleeping, was depressed and she herself even said how much she knew she had aged. It was a sad time. She passed away within 6 months of my Dad passing. No more pain was she burdened with.

  15. Thank you so much, Dr. Dray! I have my first ever appointment with a psychiatrist tomorrow. Watching your videos always helped me in my darkest moments. I appreciate your humor, knowledge, dedication, and no-nonsense approach to all things skin care. Caring about my skin was and is a huge part of taking better care of myself. Sometimes my skincare routine, however minimal, is the only yconstant in an otherwise deeply lonely, chaotic, depressed day.

  16. Excellent video. As a retired Occupational Therapist who worked intimately with patients managing psychiatric heath, I can attest to the association between physical & mental heath as well as the therapeutic benefits of CBT😊

  17. When I was depressed I started watching ur channel and slowly slowly started taking care of me via taking care of my skin.
It was my very first step to recovery.
Thank you so much for that @Dr Dray

  18. You blow me away, Dr. Dray. We all want to look our best, and here you are teaching us that ultimately it’s our health that most affects our “beauty.” And, thank you for being so frank and helpful about all aspects of health “beneath” our skin. You have such a clear and nonjudgemental way of imparting such important information. It’s so good to hear a physician focusing on health in such a holistic way.

  19. This is such an important part of the discussion. I’ve also seen that some studies have connected depression with things like increased allergies (which is often paired with eczema also). We are just starting to understand how our mental health is connected to our physical health. I appreciate that you chose to focus on this for the video.
