  1. I still remember the smell of calamine lotion as an eczema-suffering kid. Fun times. So thankful I’ve outgrown it.

    1. I remember being slathered down in pink calamine lotion along with my younger siblings for chicken pox

  2. As a child my cousins and I slept outside. In the morning I had 34 mosquito bites😭. My aunt covered me in calamine lotion and I pretended I was a very itchy pink panther for a couple days😂😭😂😭😂

  3. Chicken pox and red measles. Soooooo itchy. I have the shingles vaccine. I remember mom picking up a new oatmeal bath soak thing. 30 minutes of pure bliss in the tub, with no itching. I think I was slathered with pink lotion between baths. I asked mom to send the old partial box to neighbor friend to help him. Mom said she told pharmacy to buy more boxes, quickly.
I remember clear calamine lotion was very new when allergist applied it after my tests showing lots of allergies. Was bliss again.

  4. Ahhhhh… one of your RNs here. One of my all time favorite unsexy products. When I fry my skin barrier by using a few too many actives, I do a Calamine Lotion mask and VOILA! Instant calming and healing.

  5. I had chickenpox 1 month ago. I’m 36 years old 😭. The longest 3 weeks of my life 😅.

  6. Thank you for all the information, I would love a video that addresses old school treatments. Someone bought “ stinky springs” and can no longer swim there, it was an old resort spring with lots of sulfur. Wonderful for skin and dogs. They sell sulfur powder in feed stores. I think it would be interesting to look at veterinary products

    1. Dr Dray has talked about sulfur in videos. She’s also mentioned Bag Balm in at least one of her videos on lanolin.

  7. CeraVe’s retinol has helped me. When I was wearing a mask, eczema broke out in my nose and cheeks. After using a medicated cream to clear it, I started using retinol for skincare. That was when I found out that it is great for clearing the bacteria in the skin which enables the eczema to flourish. My fingers are clear too.

  8. When I was a toddler in the late fifties I had the chicken pox and my mom covered me all over with it.
    I was pink all over.

  9. I remember the pink “dots” on my skin when I had chicken pox back when I was a child…probably in the early ’60s….also when I had mosquito bites…I don’t recall any problem with the calamine…but, of course, I was so young…didn’t question the treatment.👍🙂❤️

    1. I thought about the same thing 😂mine was in the 80’s but I was a pink spotted child

  10. Thank you! I’ll try it for mosquito bites, especially when I visit Mexico. The itch can be maddening.

  11. Calamine is very famous in Brazil to heal sunburn. I remember having to use more than a couple of times during my childhood. 🤭 It has this particular smell to it . Great video ❤

  12. Works really well for chicken pox. Put it in the fridge. I actually mixed the calamine lotion with baking soda and kept it in the fridge. It really pulls the heat out

  13. Calamine lotion has been around for ages and ages. I am about to turn 65 and Calamine lotion was a medicine cabinet staple for as long as I can remember. Mostly for poison ivy but also used for anything that itches. For me, it was bug bites and allergic reactions to something that caused skin rashes that itches like crazy.

    1. I’m from the same era: calamine, bactine, neosporin, and aspirin were the lineup in our medicine cabinet. Makes me strangely nostalgic to think about.

  14. I’m a diabetic and I have fragile skin. I can scratch my skin so easily these days. I use Caladryl for when my skin itches. It’s a miracle worker!

  15. We always had either Calamine lotion or Caladryl in our home when I was young and we used both often. I was in my early 20’s when I got chicken pox. I still remember how bad the itch was. The only thing that helped temporarily was an oatmeal bath followed by a spray that I think was called Dermaplast . Caladryl did nothing for that itch. Wish I had of known about Domeboro back then. Thanks for the tips Dr Dray! I do get lots of mosquito and bug bites in the Summer. Maybe I should get some and relive my childhood. I might be weird but I always liked the smell. Lol! Happy Thursday, Dr Dray!! I hope you have a nice evening. 💞

  16. Excellent advice as always from Dr. Dray. She always gets straight to the point, with plenty of explanation. Calamine lotion is a fridge essential!

  17. OMG- THANK YOU!!! You are the FIRST MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL to acknowledge that the bumps I get between my fingers in the summer is my Dyshidrotic Eczema . I have been told it is a virus and also I can’t get it in the summer only in the winter. . I knew this was BS!!! When I get really hot and sweaty those itchy bumps starts! Thank you!
