Hi everyone! I’m Dr. Dray, board-certified dermatologist. If you’re still burning, breaking out, or not seeing results despite using sunscreen daily, this video is for you.
I’m ranking the most common sunscreen types — from best to worst — based on science, clinical experience, and how people actually use them in real life.
👩⚕️ Whether you have acne-prone, dry, sensitive, or pigmented skin, I’ll help you find the best sunscreen for your needs — and avoid formulas that just don’t cut it.

Happy Thanksgiving!
You are my favourite dermatologist ❤❤😭🥰🥰 you are like a celebrity to me ❤️❤️🥰
thanks for watching my videos!
@@DrDrayzday we love you ❤️❤️🥰
I mean she low key is a celebrity lol
Could you do a video on budget, least expensive sunscreens? Things are so expensive these days. Thanks!
Yeah, $20 for less than 2 oz is crazy
Yes! That would be very helpful!. ❤
Yes please! High quality with decent quality, $20 or less!! Budget, drug-store options, please!!
Check out Japanese sunscreens/moisturizers. I use the SkinAqua and love it, and it does not burn my very sensitive eyes. The Nivea and Biore are supposed to be great also. They have a bit of alcohol but I find it helps set better and not move around on my skin. Scinic and Derma:B are Korean sunscreens I have seen in the more affordable range on Amazon. Coppertone Waterbabies had the highest score in Consumer Reports and is very affordable , if not the most cosmetically elegant; I use it for sunny day activities.
She did a best affordable sunscreens for face a year ago (several years ago she did one on sunscreens under $10).
I’m 72. I grew up when there was basically no SPF sunscreen on the market, just tanning products. In your teens you sat out with a reflector to get the most sun onto your face. OMG … I’m MORTIFIED NOW. I’ve always hated using sunscreen on my face because I felt like my skin was suffocating … yet, I always took very good care of my skin. I know, I know … well, at 70 … better late than never, I found a sunscreen that changed my life and made me ADDICTED TO SUNSCREEN… it was the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Water Lotion Cooling Sunscreen. I used that for several years, and still do (one of my favs) … but after watching your coverage of sunscreens and doing research, when I was in Athens, I bought 2 European sunscreens with PA++++ ,, the LaRoche Posay AIR 50+ was one of them.
I also took your advise and went to Stylevanna and purchased the HaruHaru Black Rice Moisture Airelit Daily Sunscreen, which I LOVE, and the Beauty By Joseon Relief Sun, which I haven’t tried yet.
I also LOVE the Paula’s Choice Resist Skin Restoring Moisturizer with a Broad Spectrum SPF 50. I have slightly dry skin and find the tinted sunscreens to be somewhat drying. Maybe a heavier moisturizer needs to be applied prior. I have the Elta MD UV Daily SPF 40 Tinted Face Sunscreen, and the color is decent.
Thank you always for your enlightening and informative information, and humor. xoxo
Yeah, it’s Zink oxide that is a bit drying. You can see Zink oxide in anti-acne medical creams, because it helps heal the inflammation and reduce acne. So, that’s what you feel on your skin. I have oily skin, but I feel a bit of dryness with them around my eyes, so I put heavier moisturizer before. It’s nice that you found the sunscreens you like, good luck!! 🎉❤
68 here and ditto no sunscreens around my area until mid to late 80’s. My cousin you to bake herself in baby oil …oy vey
Using Cerave AM, do not enjoy but will finish it
Korean and japanese are soo cosmetically elegant for me ❤
Me too! I just bought it and hate to waste so will finish it :(
I also love the Korean and Japanese. It makes you want to wear sunscreen 😊
I just finished Round labs birch juice sunscreen and will be trying biore water essence sunscreen next. Round labs was good. Kinda greasy for me, so maybe shouldn’t have been using it in the summer.
I agree– did not like Cerave at all.
Happy to see Anthelios spf 100 on the list. I have tried a lot of stuff and that is my favorite sunscreen.
This is probably the best and clearest discussion of sunscreens I ‘ve ever come across. Many thanks!
I need a sunscreen that don’t burn my eyes🥲
You can set you sun screen with a translucent power
P Calm, a Korean sunscreen. It is wonderful!

Dr Dray has recommended mineral sunscreens, baby/kids sunscreens, sun sticks, or even SPF lip balms. A lot of folks like Korean or Japanese sunscreens due to their filters. But it’s still all dependent on the individual.
Use a setting powder around the forehead and eye area. But black girl sunscreen spf30 didnt sting BUT it stays sticky on the skin, so I still put a setting powder.
I have to say Dr, your ranking system caught me off guard. I LOVE IT. This is how dermatologist should be ranking products, not just blindly by brands. You put the science forward, you explain which TYPES of sunscreens work the best and their forms (liquid, powder, sticks, make up). I love you gurl 🎉❤ Thank you Dr for being a beacon for us all 🙏🤝
Dear Dr. Dray… Thank you so much for this much anticipated and informative video. I appreciate you so much! Happy Monday! ✨💚✨
Geez, I’ve never seen her so excited 🤣🤣🤣
„Getting petty today“ 🤣🤣🤣 made my day
A perfect summary of sunscreens and what to use depending on on situation. Thank you.
I developed allergic dermatitis about a month ago. My dermatologist told me to stop everything and only use Vanicream moisturizer and sunscreen. I was afraid to try the Vanicream sunscreen because it’s mineral, so I was convinced it would leave a white cast. To my surprise, it blended in beautifully! Now I’m fair with coloring similar to Dr. Dray’s, so this might not work for everyone; however, other sunscreens I tried definitely left a white cast on me. But Vanicream mineral sunscreen ended up working out for me, and I’m very pleased!
vanicream moisturizer with sunscreen is my FAVORITE!
It leaves a white cast on me.
Tinted only works for me as an add-on. The tint is so strong If I put enough on to really protect, I’d look crazy.
I only use tinted because I do not wear foundation. Isn’t it funny how it looks different on different people. I just.ordered the tinted Sun Bum to try instead of my Austrailian Gold. 🤞🤞🤞For me, I dont like the shine. I actually gave my DRMTLGY away because it felt so greasy.
I can’t use tinted because my skin basically doesn’t have pigment lol looks like an orange mask
Here’s the thing- I follow Dr Dray’s advice wearing spf every day and reapplying through the day. Looking at the Amazon list, the $ for so many of these recommendations is a trip to crazy town!
I jumped for joy when I saw this video. Let the sunscreen discussion begin!! You da best.
Please don’t forget Black Girls Sunscreen SPF 50 – Kids Edition. Fragrance-free and great for daily use year-round.
Great info! Especially for anyone struggling to find a sunscreen that will work for them. Happy Monday, Dr Dray! Hope you have a nice evening. 💟
I’m 72, and I know exactly what you mean… those silver reflectors and baby oil! My favorite suntan lotion was Bain De Soleil. That smell is to die for! I have a tube of it on hand now and use it occasionally in addition to my regular sunscreen, just because the smell is so delicious and brings back so many memories! 🌞
Yes that scent was summer to me.
