Highly recomend trying an electric shaver! Razor bumps and ingrowns happen when we cut hair below the surface of the skin and it grows back out at an odd angle. Manual bladed razors are usually built to cut below the surface of the skin, while electric shavers cut at the surface.
Use lubrication like shaving cream, shave in the shower, shave with the grain, go slow and steady and gentle but firm, and switch out your razor once in a while. When the blade is dull it cuts skin easily. Those are my tips..
What’s a good noncomedegnic shaving lubricant for the face? I love how smooth my skin initially feels/looks after dermaplaning, but I always break out after 😢💔
I always get goosies when I shave and it causes razor burn, I wish I could make it stop 😢 the warm water feels so good it gives me the goosies and well… so does the cold water lol!
I love my electric razor (mostly the Phillips one blade), I always dry shave over the trash can. I’m disgusted by the thought of hair going down the drain, but I guess I can try it
Don’t think this counts for an electrical shaver. I only use an electrical shaver (dry, of course). No ingrowns, ever. Use it on lower legs, pits, stache and face. Never any issue. Yes, you can’t “clean” shave it, there is a tiny remnant of a hair, but it is so minimal compared to the ease of use and 0 issues with it.
To whomever happens to find this little message on Youtube: I was plagued by a perpetual rash and razor bumps in my bikini area for as long as I started shaving there. I made the decision to have laser hair removal in that entire area (TMI alert: except for a little “patch” on top) and lemme tell you guys, IT WAS A GAME CHANGER. I had this procedure done about 8 years ago, and to this day, the area is still hair-free (save for occasional strays which are much finer in texture, and do not result in any bumps or rash when I swipe them with a razor every couple of weeks). The skin is soft and smooth, and there is no more irritation while wearing swimsuits. Just make sure they use the correct laser, and you get the correct amount of sessions (mine were 6, and bought with a Groupon). Highly, highly recommended, and just a gift that keeps on giving. That is all.
Hi Dr Dray Happy Tuesday. Thanks for sharing this excellent advice. Have a Good Night.
I like using salicylic acid wash before shaving just to soften the hair before shaving to make a smooth shave
This is a game changer! I do it beforehand again after and it makes a big difference
@Makai Threadssame i don’t get ingrown hair and no razor bump either
“If you get razor bumps, stop dry shaving.”
Me: literally never dry shaves and still gets bumps.
Right? Never dry shave, go with the grain, always use some lubrication and still get hundreds of little bumps anytime I shave. I just don’t anymore 😂

Exfoliation is key
Do you shave as soon as you get in the shower or do you wait a little so your hair and skin can soak up as much water as possibly

I’ve tried using squalane/hemisqualane, and even snail mucin, but no such luck… my skin is very picky 😒
Try Unicure conditioner which is also great to put on your skin for sunburn.
Try doing nothing. It takes about 3 months and then you’ll be fine.
Dr Dray, do you think irritation and bumps are inevitable if you’re shaving against the grain?
She sounds so serious like a news reporter
Love this Information Dr. Dray!! Thank You So Much!! Enjoy Your Evening!!🙏❤️🙏

Extra tip: use AmLactin lotion after shave.
I have never dry shaved but always get razor bumps, it’s mainly pubic area but a little on other areas too
I use the Nivea shave cream in the shower and still get ton of razor bumps
Who was out here dry shaving in the first place?!
And if they were, wouldn’t that be the first thing they changed if they were getting burn or bumps?
I shave with cleansing balm and It does the work because it does not dry out quickly so gives me a good time to shave carefully❤
Magic Shave has saved a many Black men’s face
