I come to Dr Dray for the science, but I stay for the rhetorical analysis. I`m gonna think twice before I use this tired band-aid analogy again!
The bandaid analogy works in some instances (I’m with Dr Dray for this one obviously though)
The whole reasoning behind the band-aid analogy is that a bandaid is only good for certain wounds,like superficial minor injuries that would have eventually healed on their own even without the help of the bandaid. If you try to use a bandaid to fix a much bigger wound, such as something that requires stitches, or is literally gushing with blood and requires surgical removal like a gunshot wound, then a bandaid is useless because the wound is not superficial, it’s deep and gone through multiple layers of tissue and requires more extensive treatment.
So the bandaid analogy is saying you can’t expect a solution that works on surface level problems to be able to fix deeper ones, not that bandaids don’t work :)
I wonder if she’s anti-ibuprofen too, even though by her own logic it would cure cancer!!!
Good explanation Doc. Also, No, taking the bandaid off and letting air get to it is not the right way. Keep the bandaid on for about 3 days to allow epithelial cells to start to form and aid the healing process.
