You are a Godsend for us dry and dehydrated gremlins!! Thank you ☺️
thanks for watching
Lol
I feel more like a lizard but I’ll take gremlin, they’re way cuter lol 😅
How about the Carave and Cetaphil ointments?
I usually do something similar but before the petroleum jelly I apply a body moisturizer. My skin feels amazing every time!
I have to admit, doing the soak and smear method as a child was extreme uncomfortable. However, as an older adult battling uncontrolled eczema all over, simply patting dry after after a shower then smearing with white petroleum jelly has definitely made a difference. I scratch in my sleep, but don’t seem to have evidence of that scratching in the morning.
Ohhh the night scratching..I had a partner with eczema and he used to scratch in his sleep and it was awful to watch. He would rip his skin off. I spent years trying to help him and doing something like this was truly the only thing that helped. I’m glad you found something that helps a little.
@Danica.Powell it’s a work in progress. I’ve spent years in a perpetual inflammation. Though much of me is still red, arms and hands are finally healing.
@@mikey3387 It’s a horrible thing to deal with, I’m so sorry. Unfortunately I don’t have any helpful advice, I learnt from my previous partner that there were only short-term treatments and that they just don’t necessarily work. The only constructive thing that actually helped was that we figured out that he had flares when he was stressed, it’s pretty impossible to avoid stress but his skin would basically be ok if he could keep his stress under control. I really hope that you keep improving and find a good way to manage it 🙏 you have my thoughts x
@Danica.Powell oh yes, stress is a big deal and I’m an anxious person anyway. But yes, it’s a huge trigger
Personal anecdote: one summer when I was kid riding in a car with my arm against open window, ( before air conditioning!) the skin got really painfully dry. Desperate, I wrapped a wet towel around my arm sitting in same window. The wind actually drove the moisture back in, relieving the dry skin.
With all the stories about bad tap water in the US lately, I’d love to hear your take on shower filters and such
I have added a hard water filter to my shower, which made a big difference to my hair and scalp.
The biggest difference for my skin overall was a phytoceramide supplement (wheat based).
Dr Dray, it would be awesome if you would make your videos available on Spotify too, I would really glad to be able to listen to them while I am driving. Amazing contents🎉❤
What a great video. So informative and thorough. That level of detail is very helpful to me in understanding how to care for my skin going forward. Especially in the winter months. Will definitely try it. Thank you educating us!
This was an excellent video, Dr. Dray. The information was concise and simple to understand, thank you.
Yes! This is great advice. What’s not to love? Soothing and pampering self-care – effective & affordable, too! I do this when my calves are ashy and itchy in the winter. For my feet 1-2x a week soak, then Kerasal & cotton gloves overnight. For my hands, AmLactin lotion every day, with cotton gloves overnight, or cotton gloves + nitrile gloves for wet work/gardening. My hands used to be dry, chapped and sore with painful cracked cuticles, esp. in winter. Now my skin is soft, silky and calm and my hands and nails are healthy and smooth. You are a lifesaver, Dr. Dray!
Going to pick out my Christmas tree now, and I’m so excited! Hugs – Sam
I love how you explain the science behind this somewhat trendy name. Because of you, my skin isn’t super parched right now but I am definitely a fan of putting on a very creamy body lotion right when I get out of the shower. Thank you for all that you do! You’re the best
I do this with Eucerin intensive repair and I love it. I do it about once a week at this point and my skin previously dry, crepey, peeling skin is as soft a baby’s butt.
Funnily enough, it was Dr Dray who also suggested a much-less aggressive variation hereof: every time after I shower, I get out of the shower wet, slather on Cerave (which contains petrolatum), and let it dry. I get an incredible amount of compliments how supple and smooth my skin always feels!
0:15: 💧 Dermatologist-recommended strategy to quickly get rid of dry skin and improve skin’s moisture barrier.
3:19: ! Using Saran Wrap and medicated ointment can be an effective treatment for dry skin.
6:38: 💧 Using the soak and smear technique can help relieve severe dry and cracked hands, but it may aggravate and irritate the skin on the face due to its different characteristics.
9:37: 🧴 Applying petroleum jelly helps seal water into the skin and improve exfoliation.
12:58: 😴 Soaking and smearing petroleum jelly on dry skin can help improve moisture content, mitigate itch, and lessen symptoms, which is particularly beneficial for sleep.
15:42: 💦 Proper skincare after swimming and limiting the use of body wash or soap can help maintain the skin’s natural moisture and protective lipids.
18:46: 🔑 Properly rinsing off body wash, avoiding hot showers, and maintaining a healthy lipid barrier are key for preventing staff infections and skin issues.

I just realised that I follow your skincare advice for the last 5 years:) Thank you, you taught me what sunscreen meant at the age of 26 and now I can say that my skin is better at the age of 31 with sunscreen+tretinoin 🙏😇
This time of year is so hard on my skin. Especially my hands, no matter how much lotion I use. I’m going to get some white, cotton gloves and give this a go. Thanks for helping those of us with dry, flakey skin. Happy Tuesday, Dr Dray! I hope you have a peaceful evening. 💞
I wish you had been my biology teacher. You describe titles and terms in such a slow, calm and clear way that even I could retain the information.
As a medical student, it is a joy to hear you explain complicated anatomy and physiology in such a simplified way. Such a great teacher. Learning more than just skincare from you!!
She would be an amazing professor but I’m glad we all have her here!
My 86 year old mom has beautiful skin and all she ever uses is Vaseline. I told her about this video and she said she finally feels validated 😆😆 I really enjoy your content, Dr. Dray.
After years of struggling with acne and now damage-induced wrinkles, I finally found that my skin is starting to glow a little and the texture has calmed down. Can’t wait for the blemishes to be gone and to one day go out without concealer. Your advice has been nothing but magic to me.
Similar story here. What are you using on your face? I’m still searching for what works. Thanks.
As a 59 year old postmenopausal female, I sleep in silk and on a silk pillowcase specifically because silk doesn’t absorb what I’ve applied to my skin the way that cotton does. It acts more like cling wrap, but is comfortable to sleep in. One of the greatest benefits reaped so far is wrapping my smeared neck in a silk sleep mask. WOW! Unfortunately, silk is terribly expensive when compared to cotton. Thumbs up, Dr. Dray!
