@ashley elizabeth You can apply our other skin care like serums under. Sunscreen should be the last thing you put on unless you’re wearing makeup but even then, you still need to reapply your sunscreen throughout the day. She has a video on reapplying sunscreen over makeup as well as other derms. Some of which also have videos going over their makeup routines and use of sunscreen.
Great advice! You should add “don’t transfer sunscreen into different containers”. I’ve been seeing a lot of people put their sunscreen into different jars, bottles, etc just for them to complain how the formula to changed into a goopy and unusable consistency.
Was the sunscreen transferred into clear containers? I am curious, if I plan to be walking outdoors for 8hours, if I couldn’t put zinc sunscreen in a clean small opaque jar (an old empty like Ponds). Would that be safe?
Even transfer any skincare to different bottle could cause this problem. I’ve seen my friends transfer their toner to different bottle and it spoils quickly.
Have been mixing my elta md tinted and untinted sunscreens for years and I’m fine. Logically it makes no sense not to use two sunscreens together especially if they are by the same brand. Elta also confirmed that it’s ok to do so.
@nandy well, they also know their formulations and preservatives so they know their sunscreens won’t interact with each other mixing mineral sunscreens from different brands (or even the same one, unless stated as cerave did) isn’t a good idea
Hi Andrea! Is it okay if I use one sunscreen before I head out for a 12-16 hour night shift & then another one before I head home? I prefer using a slightly cheaper one when heading home because I come home and wash it off and go to bed.
@First name Last name She doesn’t introduce herself as Andrea, she calls herself “Dr Dray” on the platform of youtube. Why not respect her wishes as to how she is addressed? It’s that simple.
@DrDray, I’m watching your video from May 25, 2020, talking about a paper comparing spf50 vs spf100, one participant was phototype 1. Question: for 10 hours of outdoor moderate physical activity, sweating, no shade, wearing long sleeve polyester, then what spf blocks the best? The paper claims spf100, which I have only seen as chemical blockers. Is spf 50 zinc really the most protective for fair skin? If you were me, what would you use?
I’m confused. I was told by 3 different dermatologists layering sunscreens was a great idea. Just not to mix sunscreens with other skincare because it messes up how strong the spf is. Is that what you mean?
Can I reapply different sunscreens hours later? I like to apply first the one with the highest uva protection but its also a little bit thicker and not as fun applying but once a day is not a big deal and then reapply the lighter one which is easier to reapply.
Is it okay to dab off the grease that sunscreen leaves on the face after letting it soak in for 15 min? I use a chemical suncreen and can’t afford non-greasy ones atm.
I think a longer explanation is required on this topic. I have been mixing a tiny squirt of cera ve am moisturizer into my sunscreen because it is drying.
Don’t mix chemical and physical sunscreen together.
@d b can you layer other products over and under?
@ashley elizabeth just make sure that it is absorbed before u apply spf
what if you apply mineral sunscreen in the day and a chemical sunscreen in the evening
@moment ous u need to remove one before the other both work in different ways

but it’s ok to apply one sunscreen and hours later reapply a different one right?
Yes
Sometimes it won’t layer well depending on the formula, but it’s worth trying 😊 I’ve had good success with that
Of course.
How much should I wait before applying my tinted spf after my usual one
Yes
Just wait until it fully sets, then you can apply 😊
I’ve been mixing a tinted sunscreen and a sunscreen that leaves me with a white cast for 2 months now 💀 did I just screw up really bad

I also do this but they are both mineral sunscreens. I don’t know if I would do it if one was a chemical sunscreen though.
Use the white cast sunscreen as a body sunscreen and tinted for face
@m the tinted one is too dark for me. That’s why I mix it
Do not pizza and french fry your sunscreen. You’re gonna have a bad time :S

@First name Last name When speaking to a doctor, just calling them by their first name (Andrea), is not respectful.
@First name Last name She doesn’t introduce herself as Andrea, she calls herself “Dr Dray” on the platform of youtube. Why not respect her wishes as to how she is addressed? It’s that simple.
@Heidi H I never addressed her or any doctor with their first name. I’m saying that nobody is entitled to demand special treatment from people.
@Ross Poldern either way is perfectly fine, and it’s embarrassingly sad of you to point this out.
I put the 1st layer chemical spf Bondi samds/innisfree..after 5 min mineral tinted spf Australian gold is it ok? I love the colour…

Can you apply a new sunscreen over another sunscreen when you run out? I often run out and then have to reapply on the run.
Yep. This concerns mixing. Not layering.

She’s not talking about layering, she’s talking about mixing them in your hand and then applying
Do you have a video talking about what order to put sunscreen on, etc..?
I know James welsh has a video on that. Tells you in what order to apply your skincare products, not a long video either.
Can you layer different sunscreens though?
Can you layer an SPF with a foundation that contains SPF ?
Can I reapply different sunscreens hours later? I like to apply first the one with the highest uva protection but its also a little bit thicker and not as fun applying but once a day is not a big deal and then reapply the lighter one which is easier to reapply.
what if you mix two different 100% mineal spf 50 sunscreens?
Is it okay to dab off the grease that sunscreen leaves on the face after letting it soak in for 15 min? I use a chemical suncreen and can’t afford non-greasy ones atm.
Cant you mix 2 sunscreens of different colours from the same brand?
That was my first thought because I have Australian Gold in 2 different shades. One is too light, one too dark, so I mix them everyday.
Can you layer different sunscreens after a few hours? I do this in the sun sometimes depending on what is easiest to reapply at the time
