This is so true. I developed terrible acne in my late 20s/early 30s. But I waited well over a year to see a dermatologist for it, even though it was so painful that I would come home at night and put cold packs on my face. For some reason I was afraid that the only thing a dermatologist would do was try to sell me extremely expensive skincare products that my skin couldn’t tolerate anyway. I finally saw a dermatologist, but at that point, I couldn’t tolerate ANY topical treatments. Fortunately she put me on spironolactone, and that did the trick. But because I waited so long to get treatment, it took a lot longer to get it under control, and I’m still dealing with redness 10 years later. Probably not even directly from the acne but because it kicked off some propensity to inflammation.
My daughter went on Roaccutane (uk) for a year aged 14-15. Her acne cleared rapidly and she’s had none since and now aged 25. It literally saved her in terms of self esteem and confidence.
Dr. Dray, are calming creams the best treatment for acne redness, or are there other treatments? I don’t have acne, per se, but if I get a pimple, it takes months for the redness to fade.
This is the positive face of Social Media. Imagine a teenager watching these videos thinking there’s no hope. Being depressed and self confidence take a knock because of very bad acne Your channel definitely will give someone hope.
Someone told me to spray some mist/water before applying moisturizer if i am about to use moisturizer after applying skin actives ( Adaplene). Is this actually correct ?
I had terrible skin from the age of 9 to around 23. I started birth control and it cleared up in about 2 weeks. I then started using benzoyl peroxide for about a year, and I’ve recently switched to 0.2% retinol. My skin has never looked better.
i needed this a few months ago
I have eczema
Same here. And what Dr Dray says applies to eczema as well.

Been trying for 2 years to get my daughter’s acne under control!! Ugh
Depending on her age you could try birth control. I did Accutane for 2 years with no results, but Yaz cleared it up in 2 weeks.
@Roche we did try birth control and it made it worse. 😞
