Brown growths on the face? Let’s Discuss DPN’s #shorts

Dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPN) quick facts:
1️⃣DPNs are benign growths that are a common cosmetic concern. They are not linked to underlying medical conditions
2️⃣ DPNs are extremely common in individuals of African and Asian ethnicity
3️⃣DPNs typically begin as a teen and occur in 1/3 of black of adults
4️⃣DPNs start as what looks like a small mole or freckle and grow larger and more numerous with time
5️⃣ Scarring, keloid development, or pigment changes can occur if treatment is too aggressive. Its important to find a dermatologist who will treat extremely conservatively
6️⃣Most common treatment options: light electrodesiccation, dissolving solution, snip excision with scissors, laser therapy curettage or cryotherapy (high risk of pigmentation change-I personally do not use cryo tx in patients with skin of color)
