I needed this video as i have been trying to figure out a reputable retinoid product and still moisturize well. Thank you for all you do. You’ve saved me money and educated me.
I love how you’re adding the time stamps in. It’s so helpful! Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge. It’s made my tretinoin journey so much easier
whats your skin type? and what moisturizer do you use after using tretinoin?
Love them too! They make it easy for me to review the info again and decide what product to try next.
@spontaneouslycombust I love the second Cerave that she mentions.
@Joyce J thanks for your suggestion!!!
@The 6ave Family 🤢🤢😌😌😌
As far as the order of moisturizer / serum, are you referring specifically to the full force retinol or would you also apply, say, the Cerave Resurfacing Retinol serum after applying moisturizer and letting it absorb?
Dr Dray. Your skin is gorgeous. I really appreciate these videos. It makes the process of understanding my skin and taking the best care of it that I can within my budget more doable 💜
This video is so informative, Thank You Dr. Dray. I only use The Ordinary 2% but usually put my moisturizer on after. Thought the retinol should be put on directly because it is a mild formula. Good to know you can use it before. Going to try the Avene. Looks like a good product.
I’m glad you made this video dr Dray. I’m using tretinoin cream, I apply it before bed on moisturised skin (I have a bath/shower about 7-8pm, apply on my skincare, except tret, right after). I tolerate it very well, even at the beginning I had very minimal side effects. But I keep seeing on instagram (from some dermatologists, other experts, not random people) that applying tretinoin on top of moisturiser can affect absorption (active vit A won’t reach deep into the skin, occlusives and emollients are to blame) so basically you waste most of the product🤷♀️. I cannot apply tret on dry skin, 30 min after washing my face, my skin will feel like Sahara desert😩 (plus I love my toners, essences, serums etc. I have plenty of those😬)
Dr dray you are the best!! I’ve just started tretinoin and was hoping to find a video by you on this, so this video is perfectly timed, thank you!! ❤️❤️
I LOVE putting Vaseline over top of regular products, including a facial oil and moisturizer. It’s really cut down on the amount of peeling and irritation I was experiencing using tret (0.025%)
Isn’t this called “slugging”? I’ve heard this method used in another type of skin care routine to prevent wrinkles as well.
@Velvet Pixiecake yea, best to apply occlusive layer like petro as final step occasionally to lock in “benefits.”
Does seal off moisturizer aka prevents water loss = moisturized skin which aids in anti-aging and appearance of the wrinkles… which could be prevention?
Dray has great tips on this stuff👆she’s always talking about benefits of petrolatum.
@PoohBear M. so can i use rosehip seed oil as the last step after adapalene???
@Saba Altoum I don’t see why not, if the rose oil doesn’t irritate your skin naturally. I would imagine it would help soothe in the rx’y process from the tx. I often use argan / hemp seed oils as final step after moistrzr when my skin is in need of a continuous- ‘slow release moisture’ of sorts. Especially throughout the night.
@PoohBear M. Thank you 😊
Cerave, Squalane oil, and Vanicream rock for my sensitive skin that’s been made even more sensitive with retinoids and retinols. I also will throw on some Aquaphor or CeraVe healing ointment over my moisturizer at times for extra moisture while sleeping. 👍😉
So after the retinol, you put a moisturizer and slug after? I prefer petroleum jelly. I’ve heard you shouldn’t slug when you use retinol
Another super useful video, as always.
I’ve been prescribed adapalene by my dorm and was given no instructions how to use it; that’s how I discovered you 3 years ago and I still remain a loyal fan.
Thanks for everything!
I have a sensitive, combination, acne prone skin and I tried using LRP Lipikar Baume AP+, it moisturizes and absorbs really nicely but it aggravate my acne quite badly. So now I’m using it as my body moisturizer and it works very very great. Right now I’m trying Cerave PM lotion for my face. Wish me luck 😉
I was prescribed tretinoin 0.1% for my chest and back acne in November…it’s seriously done wonders I have no body acne anymore. Went back to the dermatologist a few days ago and she prescribed it again but for my face I’m really excited to see the results
really helpful video. Thank you Dr. Dray. Would you consider doing a video on which facial spa treatments you would and would not recommend to the general public and why? For example, do you think going for regular chemical peels at a spa would help people with acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, etc.?
So thankful to actually have the time to share in-depth skin care information!!
This video seriously came at just the right time — as my face is stinging from applying my everyday moisturizer after just starting tret. Thanks so much for the info and recs Dr. Dray, you’re the best.
Delighted to see you use Australias QV brand. The chemists at Queen Victoria hospital made their first hand cream for their nurses over 100 years ago! They have a new range of ceramide products too!
Love the brand,their QV light moisturising cream has ceramides, niacinamide and lactic acid
I didn’t really pay attention to my skin until recently and thank you for educating us. I used to just put baby oil on my face. I’m sticking to CeraVe products and so far it’s working well for me.
Your knowledge and suggestions are wonderful. I’ve been binge watching your videos and also buying most of the products you recommended and so far, I’m pleased.
Doc, I have super dry skin. Recently I was prescribed Tretinoin cream to help w the butterfly rash across my face. I have been using Elf Water droplet balm after my shower. It is vegan, cruelty free and non irritating. Seems to work for me👍🏼 HugsFromNYC 🍎
I am quite impressed and happy with your product recommendations regarding my roceaca . Huge improvement and smoother, even toned skin. Kudos to you Doc!
