Happy Sunday! I have been dealing with a fever, but it broke yesterday. Ironically, after my fever broke, I turned on the Dr Dray’s video from yesterday and it was addressing nose care. Perfect timing since I had a bright red irritated nose from my cold. I can confirm Vaseline is very helpful just as mentioned in the video. I also found quick relief by applying Aveeno Calm & Restore Redness Relief Moisturizing Cream around the exterior of my nose. That was very soothing for me. I hope this tip may help someone else since I find this community so helpful to me. All the best to everyone especially Andrea! PS…your hair looks super cute in the flower clip
Hope you feel better ❤️🩹
Thank you, I am feeling much better!@@DrDrayzday
Greetings Theresa Berg hope u Feel Better n Happy Sunday😀👍💜….
Thank you, I do. Right now, I am laughing. Dr Dray’s impressions of old timers complaining about young residents is cracking me up!@@whitneybrown4067
Hi Dr. Dray, I am a medical student about to enter residency and I am also super interested in the topic of resident pay/work hours. I think the issue that the older physicians don’t realize is that now with documentation and other major changes to the hospital system, the work that residents are doing is largely tedious scutwork that does not offer learning opportunities, such as writing discharge summaries, calling pharmacies, etc etc. so the 80+ hours that we are working is not the same type of work as the older generations, who had the opportunity to perform lots more procedures and spend more time at the bedside actually learning during those hours. I think that many residents would actually be happy working these longer hours with lower pay if they felt that the work they were doing was meaningful rather than mindless.
As a newly retired RN, I think the resident system needs to be updated.
Makes a lot of sense!
80 hours/week??? Why? What genius thought of this? And it’s medicine, people in medicine are supposed to care about health, right?
Or is this just a reflection of the health being an “industry” and not “care” in the US?
Much congrats on completing med school!! 💯💥🌻
This is similar to what my relatives, who were Physical Therapists, expressed as they neared and entered retirement. They spoke highly of their job and would encourage me to consider working in the medical field, even as a CNA- but that was in the early 2000s. Come to 2020, and they hated their jobs. The documentation, regulations and productivity measurements were out of control. They became disenchanted as they interacted less & less with patients – and more time running back to the computer to input data. Glad I avoided it!
Thank you Doctor Andrea for keeping us company with your videos and Vlogs 😊❤. Have a wonderful day.
Thank you! You too!
They should be paid fairly. Times change and pay should reflect those changes. This happens with teachers to. Teachers try to talk about working more than our contracted hours and being paid more, but several people in the public don’t seem to think we deserve to be compensated fairly. We’ee supposed to be happy with what we have.
Everyone deserves to be fully compensated, especially when the economy changes. Bottom line it’s selfishness because you know these business makes more than enough to fairly pay employees, but they don’t want to because they don’t value labor even though labor is what keeps these businesses functioning.
Fully agree. Doctors, nurses and teachers serve everyone. Our work would not work without them. They surely deserve proper pay
Hi Dr u look soo pretty with eye makeup
I never understood why it is seen as acceptable to regularly work over 40hrs a week in certain industries like healthcare, trucking, teaching etc The human body and human needs are the same no matter your profession. You need balance, rest, play etc. to do a good job. Anything over 40 starts getting counterproductive and downright dangerous in my opinion.
Anything over 40 needs to be fairly compensated. It comes down to companies not seeing their employees as human.
@@tiahnarodriguez3809 Yep. And it needs to be a rare occurrence for true emergency, not a long term staffing issues because the CEO is being cheap and doesn’t want to pay fair wages or hire enough employees.
Actually there’s scholarship showing that even 40 hours per week is entirely too much. Something around 25-30hrs per week is much more reasonable and humane. Our conceptualization of work is so warped in this country, it’s unreal.
@@thom_cat8883It really is! People came up with these standards how freekin long ago, and we just have to follow and go along with what other humans tell US TO DO!
Thank you from someone who left teaching after 20 years! I loved it but working that many hours took a toll on my entire life, kids, marriage, family life, etc .. after 20 years and little pay I left and im much happier!
The Buffalo residents should be getting the same pay as other residents in NY state. As for people complaining that the residents should be greatfull for a job, they have to realize 80 hours a week is exhausting and these residents probably have student debt to repay.
EXACTLY!! Thank you
Any older professional needs to check your bias at the door. As someone close to their 50s, Education, rent, childcare, everything is exponentially more expensive for those entering their residencies and the workforce.
As a patient I don’t want someone who has been awake for 24 hours working on me. I worked in IT for 35 years and we had a rule, you go home after 12 hours because you get stupid when you’re tired. 2nd shift takes over fresh. When we had a crisis we would send half the staff home to rest so they could come back and relieve the people who stayed on site. As far as pay goes, yes you should be paid minimum wage. But cost of living in NYC is way higher than Buffalo so not quite fair to compare salaries in the 2 areas.
I appreciate you calling out how sensitizing MI is. I have Type IV allergies to MI, fragrance, and nickel and it makes skin care frustrating.
I understand your frustration. I also am very sensitive to fragrance. Fragrances give me horrible migraines. Thankfully some skincare brands have fragrance free products, but so many don’t. And it really limits the brands/products I’m able to use. I wish all the skincare companies would get on board and realize that there are so many us who can’t handle fragrance.
The LAST people that should be overworked, fatigued, and over-stressed are people who have lives in their hands!
Exactly. It’s such a scary thought!
AMEN!!
Thanks Dr. Dray for looking out for us. You are so funny. I always feel like I’m right there with you. Have a great day ❤

I’ve been watching your channel since you started it and have enjoyed watching you grow and evolve as a person. In the beginning you were very minimalistic in both clothing and decor etc. and now your style is much more relaxed and homey. Watching you become a vegan has been informative as well. I have followed other channels off and on over the years but yours has been the one I have always followed. Happy Sunday ❤
I have a friend who has been out of residency for about 4 years. He’s a surgeon. He hates it. The hours are not sustainable. He always says that everyone who told him to become a doctor was like “Oh the money, the money is so good.” He always replies with “I have yet to see any of that money, and I have no social life because of my work schedule.” He’s also 400k in school debt.
The United States is a failed society
The old school types who oppose fair pay/better work conditions for residents conveniently forget their colleagues who burnt out, turned to substance abuse to cope, or quit. Also very different when medicine was mostly male, so MDs often had a stay at home spouse who took care of everything else.
TOTALLY AGREE about leafblowers. Countries in Europe barely use them and they are doing just fine. They are pretty useless and create so much noise pollution!
Thank you for educating on this topic. Unions for residents are important to protect the wellbeing of medical workers AND patient care! Residents are workers, just like every other worker in a hospital.
RN of 30 years here. I’ve always been appalled at the hours Residents were expected to work and the paltry compensation they received. They are physicians with many of education and are being held to the same standards as independently practicing ones and should be compensated accordingly- considering their level of experience of course. New RNs generally work for the starting salary but their education and licensure is taken into consideration.
I almost become a doctor then decided against it. NO time or raising my child, long hours, paying back debt, no social life, tired all the time, etc. I just can’t see the joy in it unless you’re a workaholic and don’t have kids or a spouse. 😐🥴 My aunt was an RN for 50 years. I seen how it aged her fast. Needless to say I don’t regret deciding against being a doctor. I’m glad.
