  1. I have chronic cheilitis. And even after 3 dermatologists that tried to help, no steroid, anti-fungal cream, Vaseline or lip balm helps…

    1. @@lorena.e I think maybe of getting phototherapy. I don’t think Dr. Dray talked about this too much on her channel, maybe because it involves UV radiation. But this is the last resort I think… Maybe we should try this out.

    2. Have you tried changing your toothpaste? I had issues for years and years until I tried one of those all-natural remineralizing ones. Not sure how effective the toothpaste is, but chapped lips for 30 years were gone so I was reacting to an ingredient in OTC toothpaste.

Also, if you have fungal infections chronically elsewhere, you might want to see an immunologist. It was the first sign I had an immunodeficiency.

Also also, I get cold sores that look like chapped lips more than sores, so if it’s that, Abbreva or antivirals made the chapped look go away.

  2. it’s weird, Carmex used to really help me get rid of dry chapped lips for YEARS, and then it just randomly stopped helping 🤷‍♀️ now it literally does nothing

  3. Omg I thought i had chapped lips!!! They are not even this chapped wow. I must be over exaggerating minor thing into major uh oh hhehehe ♡ thanks for sharing! I wanna try that to make my barrier stronger♡

    1. @@blivion7203 i get it in the middle of my bottom lip a l ot. i thought might be dehydration. thanks for your advice. i love learning <3

    2. @@phantomlegs I wish you didn’t have to learn that way though. If you have chapped lips it can really be a pain. Especially chronic chapped lips (cheilitis).

  4. I always carry Sunbum spf15 or Blistex, especially when I lived in Colorado. I’ve hated Carmex since I was a kid. Goes in the trash.

    1. Yes! I came to say this! If the corners are splitting it is usually angular cheilitis, which can be caused by a deficiency in vitamin B12.

  5. I only have this on the corners of my lips. It gets so bad that it forms a scab on my skin and is very irritating. I’m not lacking in any vitamins btw

    1. I had this. Could be a fungus like it was for me. I used ring worm ointment and after treating it this way I only got it once again and then never came back for years now. When applying make sure you don’t cross contaminate the two corners of your mouth (ie wash hands and use different fingers) and not contaminate the tube of ointment with fingers that’s touched the corners of the mouth

  6. I was going to comment on today’s video, but then “life” got in the way. I did a deeper dive into the importance of niacinamide, and I was astounded by the lack of attention to the benefits of this ingredient. Each day you help me pull back the layers (pun intended) on how vital it is to have a balanced approach to skincare. Learning something new everyday! 💜

  7. Carmex is really for cold sores; for drying them out! Years ago carmex used to have alum in it and a touch of phenol for pain. Sadly, the label say’s’water resistant(80 minutes)’, so it actually has a time limit. Chapstick helps,it’s tried and true.

  8. Cracks in just the corners of the mouth could be caused by a fungus. Or vitamin B (I think) deficiency. I believe ring worm ointment works, I hadn’t had it for years since finding out the cause and treating it. My grandpa always had it and then I started getting it and thought I’d had to deal with it like he did. Years of struggle and now years of not having it reoccur. When applying, make sure you use just a little and not to cross contaminate ie wash your hands/use different fingers to apply

  9. Heard Drew Barrymore talk about her chronic chapped lips. She recommended Dr. Dan’s Cortibalm.
I tried it and its amazing, theres also
the “maintain” and a spf balm!

    1. Thank you for mentioning this!! I am going to try it. Almost 20k mostly positive reviews on Amazon. Excited to try it.

  10. I used to buy the RVO lip balm from DT but they stopped selling it I guess which sucks because it worked so so good. EOS do irritate my lips and make them more dry so when I found the rvo I was in heaven. Haven’t been able to find one similar to it yet. I know, good ole Vaseline, and I definitely use it when absolutely needed and for other healing purposes but I like a good scented lip balm. I don’t lick my lips so I don’t reapply to get the flavor haha. I’ve tried the Vaseline aloe stick and original but the aloe one seemed to bother my lips too and I just don’t like the smell of the original Vaseline, idk what it is about it but it’s bothersome to me.

Is there another you’d recommend that’s scented but good for moisturizing your lips by chance?

  11. Should petroleum jelly be used before going in the sun? A friend of mine had severe swelling. I try to use a sunblock for my lips.

  12. My isotretinoin treatment used to make my lips so dry that if I forgot to put on a chapstick, it was going to be almost bleeding by the evening. I am talking about any kind of chapstick. What was great about Carmex is that I did not need to use it more often than any other chapstick (since I needed to use one once an hour at least) but it also made the pain from dryness go away…so I don’t think it is such a horrible product. It does not make you addicted to it if you need to use a chapstick often anyways
