Slugging is helpful for me during the winter months when the weather gets really cold, as is the case now. I also tend to mostly focus on the eye area using either Vaseline or Aquaphor (also using it as a lip balm). Helped a ton so thank you for recommending it!

I’m still heartbroken that Cetaphil added niacinamide to their gentle cleanser. My skin has complicated feelings about niacinamide, and I have lost the one cleanser I knew I could use no matter how angry my skin was at me. CeraVe products are all made of fire and redness (it’s those products, not my barrier).
Oh well, time to explore Asian beauty cleansers. Hada Labo, COSRX, and I’m from are my friends right now. Gimme snail.
I had the same experience with Cerave and Cetaphil.
I feel your pain! Iโve been using this one simple moisturiser for years now, I canโt remember using anything else thatโs how long Iโve used it for and my skin absolutely loved it. Then they added niacinamide to it, my skin canโt tolerate niacinamide at any percentage even if it isnโt at a high percentage. So now Iโve had to stop using that moisturise and Iโve spent months trying to find another one that I love but I havenโt had any luck ๐ญ why canโt brands just stop reformulating their products to keep up with trends
@H M I just ordered a new moisturizer by Purito. Itโs an oat moisturizer. Itโs called Oat In Intense Cream. $21 USD. Amazon. Thereโs also an oat toner. I really hope that helps. No niacinamide or HA.

I knew that some products can be put into the fridge, i put my suncreen personally (correct me if I’m doing something wrong please do forgive about that-I’m not the smartest person here). Donโt forget to be careful with slugging over retinols/retinoids as this can actually increase irritation as opposed to helping it. I heard a derm say this (may have been you Dr. Dray). If youโre going to slug, do it when taking a break from the retinoid.
I do slugging with my differin gel and it works amazingly well. But first I do moisturizer, then differin, then moisturize again and slug over that.
@Celtic girl even if using sandwich method. Slugging can increase irritation
@Gustavo Salazar maybe for some people, but ever since I started do it that way my skin seems to get the most out of Differin.

Great overview of some of the most prevalent skincare ingredients. In your discussion of niacinamide, I don’t think you mentioned the chance of it causing skin flushing, especially for folks with sensitive skin or rosacea. I don’t use it often because I have that reaction to my rosacea-prone areas. Would using it in AM and PM products be kind of an overkill?
Have you seen her video, why niacinamide burns & causes redness? I think she discusses flushing in that one.

What would be your recommendation on how long to keep a product of you havenโt opened it yet? For example, I have some back-ups of products or sample blister packs of skincare/makeup with purchases that have sat around for awhile. Is there a certain point when these unopened products should be thrown out?

I have been slugging for years. My grandma used to slug ๐! With plain old Vaseline. My grandmas skin was incredible. I started with over the counter retinol from Neutragena . Used it for 2 years. My rosacea tolerates it very well. Then switched to Adapalene when it went over the counter for 2 years. Now my new derm has switched me to .25 Tretinoin. ๐ฎ. My skin is amazing. I had 2 kids (early 20โs) I work with ask me my age age? I laughed and said how old do you think I am. Wellโฆclose to my moms age? you have a 17 year old ,so Iโm guessing you may be in your 40โs? Do you color your hair? ( it is natural gray lol) I said no this is my natural color and Iโm 56!
