Vitamin C + Retinol: Are You Using Them Right?

Vitamin C and retinol are two of the most popular skincare ingredients for improving the appearance of aging skin.

In this YouTube Short, dermatologist Dr. Dray explains how to use vitamin C and retinol together as part of an anti-aging skincare routine.

Retinol is typically used at night and can help improve the appearance of wrinkles, collagen loss, and age spots. Vitamin C is usually applied in the morning to a bare face, followed by sunscreen. As an antioxidant, vitamin C can help protect the skin from oxidative stress, while vitamin C serums containing ascorbic acid may improve the appearance of collagen, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and age spots.

Together, vitamin C and retinol can be a great combination for an evidence-based anti-aging skincare routine.

  1. Differin can be used in the daytime or at night, at least according to their website. I do either. Maybe that’s why the kit has an SPF30 moisturizer which can be used at night if necessary, and of course definitely in daylight.

  2. Hi Dr Dray, what do you think of the formulation Trader Joeโ€™s has of their Vitamin C and Retinol? I use the simple: Retinol at night and Vitamin C in the morning routine, personally, and itโ€™s done me wonders.

    1. i use the Trader Joeโ€™s products for $$$ sake unless itโ€™s really that much of a difference to invest in something more expensiveโ€ฆ
