Yea so it is called sandwiching when you put a layer of moisturizer then tret or retinol and then another layer of moisturizer to protect from irritation
The moisturizer acts as a barrier and can help against irritation from the tretinoin. It all depends on how well your skin tolerates the active. Dr. Dray has mentioned how the sandwich method (moisturizer-retinoid-moisturizer) is really effective to minimize irritation for those using retinoids, especially if you’re new to them. I like to do moisturizer after tret. Do what works best for your skin :)
The full video can probably be found but she uses an oil cleanser to take the makeup off, and then a gentle cleansing gel, then the moisturizer like CeraVe p.m., then a little petroleum jelly around the lips and the eyes to protect from the tretinoin, and then the Tretinoin and that’s the final step.
You can do it both ways. Putting moisturizer first will decrease irritation from tretinoin but if you have have no issues with putting tretinoin first then theres nothing wrong with using it before moisturizer.
Dr Dray, Great video, but the descriptions you provided describing each step are layered (hidden) under your channel name and the video description. Can you slide the descriptions up a bit so that we can read them? (That would then answer many of the questions people are asking.)
I dunno why but the cerave face moisturizer with spf I have accese to is only spf 25 last time I checked. And it’s a weeny 52ml. I bought it though. Hopefully it works well for me.
So the giant patch of peeling skin at the corner of my mouth that I’ve had since starting tretinoin is because I wasn’t supposed to put it there?! Doh.
Wait. Is it okay to put active ingredients (tretinoin) and such after moisturizer?! I usually do cleanse-serums-moisturizer.

yup studies have shown there’s a significant amount of reduction in irritation and almost the same amount of efficacy

Oh what adorable puppies!😍😍
Thank you! 😃
everything’s going so fast. can you list products?
You can pause the video. That’s what I did.

Wow, the trentinoin one goes on last? I always put it on before my moisturizer. Good to know.

@Marko I actually just mix the tretinoin in with my moisturizer
@Carlsbadit’s recommended to layer your tretinoin because of the risks of mixing the products due to uneven application
I do moisturizer, then tret, then aquaphor. I have dry skin so the tret is too much for my skin if it goes on dry.
Do u put tretinoin under your eyes?

Love it, complete but no excessive amount of products 👏👏💕
Let’s all stop and appreciate that aside from the tretinoin.. these are all basically drug store products.
Goes to show tret is all you need!!!
@El Nuevoyet you can only get with a prescription from a derm…unless you live in mexico or india or something
TOO fast doc if some of us are trying to get names of products. Confusing although i understand it is basic. Maybe just too fast. Again please?
@msk I use adapalene 0.1% gel instead … it’s available over the counter in the US.
Thanks for sharing Dr. Dray!
I know Tretinion is more powerful and quicker to show results than Retinol. But with long term use are the results the same?
Dr Dray (or anyone) can you suggest good hand creams with sunscreen in them? Particularly for if we’re putting actives on our hands…
They always say use a pea size of Tretinoin for your whole face but she uses way more than that, I would be a peeling mess
Petroleum jelly isnt bad to put on our skin?

Can’t we use tretinoin on the eye area?
Can we use a niacinamide serum as the moisturizer? And do we wait for a bit after the moisturizer before we go in with the tretinoin?
Is this suitable also for adapalene or should adapalene be before thr moisturiser?
How long do you wait after applying moisturizer before applying tretinoin?
Wow! %0,1?? I use 0,05 and put a lot of moisturizer etc and peel like crazy
Everyone’s “pea” is different 😂
