  1. Can you layer suncscreen products tho? Like using a normal spf and using a skin tint containing spf afterwards (sadly most of them contain spf 15 nowadays)??

    1. If the first layer has been on for 15 mins or longer it doesn’t compromise its protection. But it also doesn’t increase it.

  2. I always apply the SPF then jet it dry and set before makeup, sometimes I rather use SPF with tinted coverage ❤ I learned this lesson one hot summer 🌞 never again trying to be a mixologist😂

  3. What about 2 tinted sunscreens that are the same product but different shades because neither one quite matches? 😭

    1. Those products were not tested this way, so there is no guarantee that mixed together will yield the same protection as stated on the labels. The risks you take by altering or changing any given sunscreen formulation is unknown and not recommended. You are not a chemist at home in your bathroom. Either find a different sunscreen that matches, or learn to live with the subtle imperfections. Better safe than sorry!

    2. @ryanmg90 I don’t think mixing 2 different shades of the same sunscreen makes me a “chemist in my bathroom”. Unfortunately almost every sunscreen, chemical or mineral, irritates either my eye lids or my eyes, so out of at least a couple dozen sunscreens I have tried, only a few don’t physically harm me. Of those, the tinted ones don’t match, the untinted mineral are too shiny and white casty, and chemical ones are too oily and I can’t put them near my eyes. I am constantly buying new sunscreens just to return them or never use them (bc something is wrong with them). So forgive me if I mix 2 of the exact same product because it is literally one of the only products out of dozens that moderately works for me.

    3. @@justicejones7646I’m sorry if my comment was blunt, but unfortunately this is the harsh truth of what you may be doing to the health of your skin. Go ahead, mix those “2 of the exact same product” all you want. Just know that you are potentially compromising each sunscreen formula as a whole, and rendering them both less effective. There is no way of knowing if this new mixture is still protecting you as originally tested. In the long run, not only will you be wasting money on multiple products, but also your time and efforts.

    4. @@justicejones7646 although the other commenter is right (the risk is unknown), on the other hand it’s much better doing what you’re doing than not using sunscreen, or not using the right amount of sunscreen. Unless the manufacturer says so, nobody else can tell you that what you’re doing is absolutely fine (we can’t know that), but I’d say don’t stress over it and do what encourages you to use the most amount of sunscreen most often. Maybe avoid mixing if you’re staying in, or just going somewhere you don’t mind, like the beach. Most of us are not perfect with sunscreen application, but the biggest difference in my opinion is consistency vs. lack of consistency.

    5. @@justicejones7646 you’re being soooo defensive to someone who gave you a clear, honest and accurate answer 😂

  4. But sunscreen is fine on top of other products, like moisturizer, right? Does sunscreen always need to be the last product applied?

  5. Dr. Dray, with age you are more and more beautiful. And thank you for sharing all that wisdom. ❤

    1. I was about to write the same thing! Dr Dray you look particularly glorious in this video! x

  6. Finding the right sunscreen and skincare products is a very expensive, long, and arduous journey, Madam Dray.

  7. I was just gonna ask if we could mix sunscreens together, but you just answered at the end. Damn. I’ve been doing that sometimes.

  8. But what’s the difference between mixing and layering? At the end, wouldn’t the result be the same?

    1. I think with layering you wait until the underneath layer is nearly dry / absorbed, so wouldn’t ‘mix’ as much as if you were purposefully mixing in your hand together :)

  9. Has anyone tried a spray spf for top ups over make up in the daytime? Going on holiday and want to be extra protected :)

    1. @@dime.overmatter A hat is always a must, but I’ve seen those ‘over make up’ spf top up sprays and wondered if they’re any good

  10. Dr. Dray, I have mixed mineral sunscreen with another mineral sunscreen. Can you please explain why this is not a good idea? Thank you!!!

    1. Because they both have their Betsy specific formulations and when you interrupt that delicate balance it messes up the ability to properly protect you. Just use one sunscreen

  11. Please consider making a video of moisturizers and sunscreens that can be layered without pilling.
