  1. I don’t tolerate aquaphor well, but do fine with CeraVe healing ointment and Vaseline. I suspect the lanolin is the aquaphor ingredient that does not agree with me!

  2. Does petrolatum ruin sun protection? I saw a TikTok somewhere of a girl who got bad sunburn from using aquaphor on lips. Wouldn’t petrolatum prevent sunscreen from being able to form a protective film?

  3. I have eczema and psoriasis. There is something in Aquaphor that inflames my skin. It doesn’t happen right away, but once it penetrates into my skin the inflammation and irritation is awful. The doctor probably told her that to play it safe.

    1. I had a bad reaction as a child. The memory of that reaction stayed with me well into adulthood, wish my derm NP had looked out for me the way her doctor did as it was incorporated into my routine due to my derm provider.

  4. This makes some sense. I had a bad reaction to aquaphor as a teen and was extremely scared off from trying any of their other products for around 15 years. I use their lip spf ointment now (and do enjoy that) but stick to generic petroleum jelly when needed for the face.

  5. I’m allergic to lanolin and i react to petrolatum even in prescription eczema lotion, i can only find one generic company that I don’t react to, it’s a pain , however i am grateful I can still use it!

  6. If you’re watching from Australia, the Dermeze company makes “Treatment Ointment” that’s a blend of liquid paraffin and petroleum jelly with no lanolin, fragrance, preservatives, or anything else. I think it’s the best.

  7. I only use Aquaphor when i am going out because there is one that has spf in it and when I am not going out I only use cerave healing ointment or just plain Vaseline, and hyaluronic acid

  8. So thisss is what’s happening to me I guess. My doc was saying it’s impossible to have eczema on the lips but my lips have been swollen to the point Ppl think I have fillers. Also, they’re like cracked and peeling when the swelling goes down. Only thing that has helped is Benadryl 😢

  9. I feel so validated! I have hand dermatitis/eczema and my dermatologist prescribed a couple of ointments and also instructed me to use aquaphor. I told her I have a sensitivity to aquaphor for some reason and she acted so surprised as if it was so unbelievable. I ended up using Vaseline or cera ve healing ointment that worked great for me

  10. When my kid was a baby they had a shockingly horrific outbreak of eczema. The Pediatrician gave triamcinolone and said to top it with nothing but Vaseline. Her exact words were “don’t worry Mom, it will be like a magic cream!” Well, she was right! So we are a plain Vaseline household LOL!

(p.s.: steroid only VERY short term!!)

  11. Vaseline actually didn’t help my facial eczema much, which was constantly flaring for years. What did help a little was moisturisers with ceramides: that was a game changer. And Tacrolimus/ immunosuppressant tablets

  12. It took me 2 years to figure out that I was allergic to lanolin when using aquaphor. The edges of my lips alone would become inflamed and would take days to go away. I would keep applying aquaphor and threw out so many of my lip balms and lipsticks thinking it was that. Until I stopped aquaphor after watching the YouTube video about a possible sensitivity to lanolin and now only Vaseline works amazing for my lips. Have not had a flare-up in over a year.
