Best Way to Remove Body Hair| Dermatologist

If you choose to remove your body hair here are a few things to know about the various methods of hair removal from a dermatologist.

While surface methods like shaving and depilatory creams offer quick fixes, they only remove hair above the skin, leaving the root intact. This means short-term results, with stubbles growing back the next day.

Root methods such as waxing and epilation provide longer-lasting results (3-4 weeks) by removing the entire hair follicle, including the root. Epilation has a reduced risk of hyperpigmentation and ingrown hairs.

Energy-based devices like IPL, electrolysis, and laser offer the longest and most permanent results. By disrupting the hair follicle and preventing regrowth, these methods break the hair growth cycle. However, not all energy-based devices are safe for skin of color, so thorough research is essential. For those with melanin-rich skin, ND Yag 1064 LHR is the safest option.

I do understand that ingrown hair does exist if you don’t shave, but that’s not my point. Most people shave and remove hair because they’re ashamed to even have it like it’s some unnatural thing

  2. My derm offices uses something called Motus AZ+. I haven’t tried it and unfortunately I don’t have a derm in my area that treats mostly skin of color, so I’ve stayed away except for urgent care.
